Repaired FICM
My FICM was reading 20.x volts during the 3second start, 48v after, and 35.x running.
After I resoldered everything, 48.x volts during 3 second start, 48.9v after, and 47-48v running. Every once in a while, it's a bit rough still. I have a bit to much diesel kleen in it, just changed oil and coolant. Going to do EGR delete next week perhaps. Any other suggestions to keep me going? At 201k when it started acting funny, runs a lot better now though. Still not perfect, not as I'd like it. I want to guarantee my next 200k though. |
that is a good success story on repairing your FICM
Coolant filter is good upgrade and easy to install:tu: |
Your EGR valve itself could just be dirty as all he!!. Try removing that and cleaning it! Or just do the EGR delete. I bet that will help a ton. I'm only at 80k miles, just did my egr delete this weekend and I can tell a difference.

I clean my egr every 20k or so. Just did it a month ago. I have egr delete kit on my workbench but I haven't figured out how to keep the CEL out without a custom tune. Once I get over that, it will be egr deletion.
Also, I'm still having a slight miss, albeit MUCH better than before. This weekend I'm gonna pull it apart again and see what I can figure out. |
You need the custom tune to ditch the light. You can get a "stock tune" with the EGR function turned off though if that's what you're worried about.

My biggest thing is I don't feel like spending $$$$ on a tuner to just got with a stock tune.

02-6.0? you shouldn't get a lite with the delete, unplug the egr one and see if eng lite comes on, my 04 has been unplugged sinse 50k and no eng lite, only an issue with 05 and up

04 6.0, post 9.22.03 construction. I will try that after i fix the current cel light problem. I have P0404 and P0487, if anyone is savvy with those.
|
yeah, mine is an early 04 build and I don't have any issue.
|
For the most part 03/04 trucks wont get a light and 05-07 will, HOWEVER, I have seen the opposite true in both cases. It's rare, but does happen, so it's not a given.
P0487 is for EGR throttle plate in 03/04 trucks. P0404 is another EGR flow code. |
