Egr Delete/CEL Question

I am looking at the RCD Delete kits that have been on ebay. I have no tuner and will not get one until I have money for headstuds. I want to avoid a CEL.

Here is my question: If I install the kit and the CEL pops up can I plug-in the uninstalled EGR valve and fix it out of the way to turn the light off?

Also feels free to point out any flaws you've found with the RCD kit or suggest a better one.

Thanks!!!!!

I still haven't installed my RCD kit, but I think it's hard to beat for the $$$. The only kits I think that are better are the FCDP and the GoGo one (GoGo is the best IMO). They are also a lot more money than the RCD kit.

I doubt plugging the valve in and letting it dangle there will rid the CEL, since it still wont be getting any flow over it, but it has worked for some. The only way to be SURE is the SCT. You may or may not get it without it though. I would NOT count on plugging it in and getting no code, that is not 100%. You can just let the CEL sit there until you get an SCT though, it wont hurt anything.

What year is your truck. If it is and 03-05 you can leave the EGR valve pluged in and you'll get a soft code in the PCM but no CEL.
If its a 06-07 you'll need a SCT with EGR delete tunes.

This is the rule of thumb, but it's not a guarantee by any means. Most 03/04 trucks you don't even need to plug the valve in, just leave it off and you wont get the CEL. However I have seen the opposite of this "rule" in both cases. I've seen 03/04 trucks that threw a CEL, and I've also seen 05+ trucks that didn't throw a light.

I do a ton of them and have never had a 03-05 throw a CEL with the cooler done and the valve still in place and pluged in. I'm sure it could happen just never see it.

The first EGR delete I ever did was a liberator kit on an 04 harley F250. That kit only had the stainless up-pipe and the coolant re-direct (to eliminate the cooler), but I believe it still left the EGR valve in place. It had a CEL. It was the only way I could convince him to ditch his bullydog and get an SCT. I distinctly remember that part. It's not common, but not unheard of.
