EGR Delete Kit
 

Can Anyone tell me the difficulty level of installing this? Any Special tools needed in the process? How long would it possibly take? I have one on the way and am wondering if i should try to attempt it myself or take it to a shop.... i haven't done much work on diesels so i'm kinda iffy about it:humm:... and the delete kit is a good idea correct??

I did one with a buddy. There's nothing overly complicated about it. Just take your time and it helps a ton to have someone there to help you. It is tedious and time consuming, but not overly difficult. It took us pretty much all day to do it, but it was our first time, and the so called "reusable" intake gaskets on his 100k mile truck, were not reusable. I had to clean up the mating surfaces and he cleaned the EGR valve pretty good, that wasted a lot of time there.

Is it better to get the delete kit? or the sct tuning to turn off the EGR?

The EGR cooler needs to be removed to get the most benefit. Turning off the EGR valve will still allow hot exhaust to enter the EGR cooler potentially leading to rupture. Using a kit such as a GOGODiesel manifold (Intake Manifolds : Direct Injection Performance - GoGoDiesel.Com, Your Source For All Things Diesel!) will allow you to have the EGR valve in place (some states) or not.

If you know how to turn wrenches at all, you can do an EGR delete, they're pretty simple. Just plan the trucks down time accordingly and leave extra time just in case.

mudstrokin if you do it yourself, take a look inside the intake manifold and that will tell you how much crap is getting put back into your motor. This will definitely keep garbage out. Theoretically it should improve power and mileage as you're now using 100% fresh clean air, instead of your used exhaust gases...
