Block off the EGr and Cooler or to remove it altogether?
 

I have an 07 F350. I am trying to figure out whether it is better to block of the Egr or to have it removed all together along with the cooler. My Mechanic is telling me it's better to remove it as there is no longer any heat going through it and therefore there isn't a chance to crack. What about codes?

I'm also concerned about warranty on the engine. Will it void it? I know they have to attribute it, but?

Or is it sufficient to just get a SCT and turn it Off. What does that really do?

Removing the EGR cooler will void any warranty work. Unless you got a friendly dealership then be forewarned. I'd recommend an SCT w/tuning to eliminate the EGR valve operation, then remove the EGR up-pipe and have it modded to prevent flow to the cooler.

I saw on a previous thread that someone talked about putting a freeze plug and or welding a plate. Is this correct or do I use a EGR blocking plate? Does this throw a code. What exactly does the SCT do in blocking it or ?

Sct with a custom tune can turn off the EGR valve ,as well as prevent or remove any codes or lights associated with it.:c:

I have an '03, and I was thinking about getting the RCD Stealth Block Off Plate (River City Diesel Powerstroke Performance, right above the Stainless Steel EGR Delete). So if I run this block off plate with SCT Custom Tunes from Eric, will I be okay? And remember, I have an '03.

And when getting custom tunes, should I tell Eric I have a block off plate so he can cut off the EGR?

I believe he shuts the egr valve off anyways, but it wouldn't hurt to check to be sure. As far as the block off plate I'm not much help 'cause I don't have one for myself yet. Please keep us posted how everything turns out.:tu::c:

On most trucks a code will be thrown if you delete it without the tuner.

I would do a full delete if it was me. As long as the cooler is on the truck, there is a chance for it to fail.

You canuse a 35mm freeze plug to block off the inlet side of the egr cooler so no exhaust enters it. there is a good egr block off kit on ebay, blocks the stock cooler off on both ends so no coolant can enter intake or exhaust,the cooler only flows coolant, no danger to the motor any more. this is the most economical kit I have found, all the gaskets and seals you will need and it works great, can't tell it is on there, looks stock, and for $150 you can't beat it, I have done three of these and it takes me about 8 hours start to finish, 2 of those hours are spent cleaning the sludge out of the intake. the best part is you can use it even if you have a blown egr cooler because the cooler just acts as a pipe for coolant flow, most egr deletes are a tube to replace the cooler but they cost 300 to 500 bucks,, why????? save yourself money, check it out, there are several people selling them on there, they are a ford gasket kit along with the other seals and orings you will needalong with the new turbo mounting bolts .. Oh yeah, no code either, the egr valve stays connected but it doesn't do squat, but the computer still sees it and thinks it is working:tu:,, but we know better, the only way a dealer will know is that the egr valve will acctually be clean, Bob

I cant get into that link, but to do it right and leave the cooler in place so warranty isn't voided it is going to cost more than $10, gaskets and o rings have to be replaced, the intake has to come off if nothing else just to clean it out, alot of sludge builds up in them. With a 35mm freeze plug and some gasket material and a little piece of sheet metal it can be done for $10 but I am not going to do all that work and reuse any seals or gaskets, so $150 is as cheap as you can do it and have a job you would be proud of and have total confidence in it, I don't want to be 1000 miles from home and have a problem.
