I have heard of people doing it not quite sure of the method ,maybe one of the ford guys will be able to give you specifics.

You can unplug it. It will through an SES light but if you don't mind that, it works.
Also an SCT tuner can be custom tunned to disable the EGR. I personally know of a man who is custom tuning these bad boys and he always includes the EGR disable in any tune. I don't have one yet but I will someday soon...

6LCummins 05-14-2007 01:25 PM

u can go farther than that and plug it if its the one im thinkin about. i know for sure that u can delete it.

DazedandConfused 05-14-2007 05:13 PM

Yeah you can cap it off but from what I have seen it is a pain.

2001shrtbedcummins 05-14-2007 07:30 PM

yea you pull the up pipe and weld a plate over it. Can't remember what else it takes.

Yes you can. Remove the up-pipe from the exhaust manifold to the turbo, on the passenger side. Disconnect the pipe from the egr cooler, cut-off the pipe that leads to the egr cooler from the up-pipe and weld it shut. Install the pipe again.

If you don't have a tuner, you might get a check engine light, because while the truck is shut-off you need to disconnect the egr plug from the valve so the egr won't open and will stay closed. If you have an SCT, ask your tuner to turn off your egr and you won't get the light.

This should give ya some good info :U:

EGR Block-Off Kit - Off Road Trucks - Diesel Power Magazine

also, just search on google or yahoo for EGR Delete kits... you will see all sorts of different varieties, but basically all accomplish the same thing.

You also need to block off the EGR cooler and re-route the flow. Simply blocking the EGR valve isn't enough because the heat can still get into the EGR cooler and still heat the coolant.

I have yet to find any actual data to back this up. I actually went a bought an infared thermometer and tried to find some temps under the hood. Not some cheap tool, mine runs like $100 for the gun with a range over 1200*F.

Using my EGT gauge as a reference I drove the truck as normal to work, when I arrived I popped the hood to check the radiator temps. I then drove off again coming back to park and I checked the EGR cooler (not an easy target). I then drove off again to check the EGT gauge by targeting the manifold.

All this being said the EGR cooler was within 10* of the radiator and the manifold was within reasonable range (20-30*) of the EGT gauge. Being that the EGTs were over 350* when I stopped I expected to see the EGR cooler in the 200+* range and it wasn't.

Running a "sneaky pipe" myself with the EGR tuned out, I think the idea that there is a HUGE amount of heat transfer is just bunk. If you a sled pulling or racing there may be a higher transfer but I just don't think it happens to the extent people want to believe for us simple HP junkies.

I don't know all the specifics, science, or data behind it all. I just know that over on the other forum site I am on they say that it's more beneficial to do a full EGR delete instead of just an EGR blockoff. I haven't done research on it cause I'm not ready to do it. The guys talkin about it are pretty firm though in what they are saying about it.

HeavyAssault 01-06-2009 06:37 PM

I hear you and that's the reason I bought the IR thermometer so I can see for myself if it's that big a deal.

HERE YA GO - DORMAN 555-025 FREEZE PLUG, AND TRACE THE FRONT COOLER EXIT ONTO A PIECE OF SHEET METAL AND ALSO GASKET MATERIAL, INSTALL ONTO COOLER AND PUT COOLER BACK ON. DEFEATS EGR BUT HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO FIGURE MONITOR OUT TO FOOL THE SES LT.

Big Angry Hillbilly 07-04-2009 09:54 PM

leave the valve in the intake and leave it plugged in. If you've blocked it off, all it's gonna do is open and close, it ain't gonna flow shit. The light will stay off for the most part.

whats up texas, i dont think you can remove one component from the egr system.I think you would have to remove the entire system. I think there is a kit correct me if im wrong. Pull the valve clean the piss out of it and if that doesnt work bite the bullet and get a new one. Texas it seems this egr system is always going to be problematic you can get the valve for as low as 220.00
