I do the same thing! I keep the binder in my truck for long trips, just in case I don't get Internet service.

I carry my ford factory workshop manuals in my truck... I have the whole set of 4 which is like like 4000 pages literally and cost me 270 bucks which is how I get you guys this info plus I have the online motorcraft subscription

Gary, I didn't go through all of the PDF's yet, but is there any section that talks about measuring block flatness, or how to prep the block for headgaskets?

Also, is the detailed instructions on checking the heads for flatness in there? I've always heard it's not a good way to do it, but never heard the actual specs or procedure.

Thanks! Mike

For checking head flatness Ford says to use a straight edge and if the heads are within .004 of being flat there good to put back on but I highly advise against this. this is why the 6.0 blows head gaskets. They also say .004 is OK on block flatness too. for prepping the block Ford says to ONLY use a plastic scraper and there ford metal surface prep part number ZC -A-31.

the only part of this i would say is a good idea to do is use the plastic scraper and there metal surface prep to remove the old gasket residue.

If there is anything else you wanna know just let me know MDUB. this info came straight from my uncle who is a head mechanic and shop manager at a local ford dealer.

Can someone make a list of things to do and in what order as far as what to replace? I just bought my 06 yesterday and plan on starting with the egr delete, oil cooler, and coolant filter with a coolant flush. But as far as a budget concerned college student I was just curious as to what should be done asap and which items go hand in hand. My truck only has 82k miles and is in immaculate condition. It looks literally brand new. And I'm going to be ordering a water, oil, and trans temp gauges and possibly a volt meter

Adrenaline junkie 02-19-2014 08:27 PM

Gauges, incl volt meter, and coolant filter are good start. Proper maintenance is essential also.

RamBow3500 02-20-2014 11:25 AM

Sorry guys this is insane

So you go buy a loaded F350 King Ranch for $70,000...Then go spend another $15,000 to bullet proof it...NOT ME NO WAY
