16cm2 housing to get me by for now?

2 Attachment(s)

1991 W250. Ground fuel pin, 1/8" adv. timing, 366 Spring, FPS turned 1/3 turn below max, 3" Snorkel, 4" straight pipe, NV4500, rear disc brakes, custom bumpers, Warn 8274 front and rear, 35" MT for the road, 38" Swampers for the trail. Isspro EV2 EGT. boost gauge in the mail. ~450,000 miles and counting
I dont really tow anything with this truck right now, probalby never will as long as I still have my '06 Duramax, but there is plenty of load when hub deep in a mud pit. I am looking for 4wheeling and general around town performance. The truck is a "hot rod" meaning that I dont need it for work, to get to work, or to last another bazillion miles. Its 10% back up rig (I could walk to work), and 90% toy.

Right now I have the pump turned up enough that I can hit 1500* before I hit 80 MPH. I have no aftercooler.

My eventual goal is to make somewhere around 400 hp, but until I have the time to build an aftercooled twin turbo setup I would like your opinion on whether or not there is enough difference between my stock 18cm housing and a 16, or would I be better off with a 14? Or just bite the bullet and get an HX35 from one of our vendors?

Because threads without pictures suck, here are my two heaviest loads.

Ditch the baby H1C and get the HX35. Also get a 2nd gen intercooler. They fit the non ic trucks with only a little fitting.

You know anyone up here that has that stuff up here? I might have found a good source for superduty parts but nothing yet for dodge junk.

You in Alaska?
There was a 2nd gen IC on Craig's list not long ago.
Check the classifieds on the forums and also car-parts.com.

by a little I guess you mean pretty much removing teh whole grill?

That was something not well covered in the sticky in this section, but with a little trimming the grill fits too.

Ya, Kenai.

I've been watching craigslist but its so easy for some things to slip through.

I dig it, but can't take on that big of a project right now, so the option at this point is a 14 or 16 cm exhaust housing, or an HX35. Will either of these two options on their own decrease my lag and help lower my EGT?

I can easily turn the pump back down if I need to, but who wants to do that?!

I put a 1" thick aftercooler radiator and circulating pump up front. The grille won't clear the circulating pump or the small pusher that is installed. Going to have to cut a good bit out of the grill in certain areas that's for sure. I'd hate to see anything thicker than 1" crammed in there. Especially if you have a/c.

A smaller housing will decrease your lag time, but the smaller housing will also hold the heat in giving you higher EGTs. A bigger compressor side will offset that some by adding more air. The catch with that is the tendency to add more fuel. What a vicious circle we get ourselves into.

I think I'll keep my eye out on the used market a while longer, I really want to see what I can do without installing an intercooler, just for the learning experience. I am also curious to see what kind of gains I might get from building a new tube between the turbo and manifold.
