Air to water intercooler

I'll get some better pics tomorrow if the weather cooperates. I'm anxious to take it for a drive. Boring on it WOT it'd slowly climb to 1600*. I've heard air to water efficiency is supposed to be second to none. I have no AFC with a 4200 gov spring, pump maxed and a small set of sticks. The truck would pretty much be smoke free at 40-45 pounds of boost. I'm getting a complete burn; just hoping EGTs are high bc of the hot air being pushed into the engine. I guess I'll find out tomorrow

can't wait to hear how it works out!

well, didnt do too bad. i didnt stay in it long enough for it to reach more than 1200* but my EGT's would fall back into the normal range in NO TIME. system definately works :c: i want to heat wrap the intercooler and my piping to prevent heat soaking. The intercooler is mounted right over the turbo exhaust housing and my intake tube crosses right over the hot valve covers. i do how ever have a blanket on the turbo and my downpipe is already wrapped. i would eventually like to add a small sump to the system with a fill cap since my fill cap and radiator sits lower than the intercooler, but this will work just fine for now :pca1: i do believe i'm going to have to turn the truck down for the trip.

Hey tower_ofpower been thinking of doing the same thing to my truck but not quite sold on it. Been looking at the frozen boost 1200 HP. Air to liquid kit, how does it work now you've had a chance to run it for a while?:humm:
Thanks.

I have a few small hiccups still, I don't think my system is circulating 100% but that's because I pieced my own system together and added fittings and such had to be plumbed in because of space restrictions and placement of things. The return to my radiator never heats up and it's always cold going into the pump so I don't know if it just never heats up that much or if it's just not moving the coolant. Ideally I need a temp probe before and after the cooler to measure efficiency.

How about your EGT's???:humm:

They drop almost instantly when you get out of it. I have it detuned a little since I have no AFC and I've had to do some hauling with it; but the EGT's have been VERY manageable and I'm thinking if it was working at 100% efficiency I wouldn't have to look twice at the pyro.

How much is the kit you're looking at going to run ya? Is it a complete kit, pump, lines, radiator, and intercooler? I had to guess my hose size and I think part of my issue is that I started with 5/8 hose and have 3/4 from pump inlet to intercooler inlet now. Still have to switch the rest of the hoses and fittings to 3/4, wouldn't be an issue but the small circulating pumps are little centrifugal pumps. Designed for volume not pressure and too much run/restriction can stagnate the coolant.

Been playing around with with my truck...the egt's have been hard to manage. I by passed my intercooler and piped it strait into the intake. come to find out it hits 40 psi supper quick and winds up to about 3600 rpm's ...before it was 33/2800...(must have been a restriction )so it now runs cooler and runs alot better (havent checked for a bad cooler).....so after reading this thread and doing some searching, i am interested in how well the air/water works for you. it must be better than nothing.....just wondering if you still like it, and will it work with twinns, they are cummin up soon. :pca1::pca1::choochoo::choochoo:

The cooler I have is only rated for 60 psi, you could use it to cool the charge air from the upper turbo before it goes into your lower (larger) turbo. Then run it thru an air to air. The air to water intercoolers have next to no pressure drop from the inlet to outlet; prob one of the best things about them. I really need to put temp probes in before and after the cooler to see how well it's actually working. Otherwise; I think it works pretty well. EGT's are still nuts with the pump maxed but the cylinders cool down much quicker.
