Depends on how much fuel you're trying to burn. Mine's set at 3/16" with no problems, but I've only got a turn or two on the full-fuel screw and small injectors. I could probably back it off a shade and it'd still be ok but it runs fine as it is, although a touch rattly.
I have yet to measure how much an 1/8" is, (standard 1st gen. timing bump) with regards actual degrees. But I know for certain that if you jump a tooth on your pump gear that will yield you a 10° advance. Some folks jump a tooth AND push the pump to the head. But, most of 'em are running big injectors.

If you have a little money to play with. The M&H timing spacer is ideal. Leave your timing stock and let the spacer alter the pumps dynamic timing instead. Only thing the 1/8th bump has over the timing spacer is that the bump is free

t-bone117yamaha 07-13-2011 10:11 AM

What are you doing? If towing you don't want much timing, if you have huge injectors and are going for all out power for short burst... more..

With my 6x16's and pump mods above the usual external stuff I was running plus two teeth and pump to the head. It ran great but was real hard on parts.

7.3 Cowboy 07-14-2011 09:54 PM

so you turn the pump toward the head?

1st_gen_puller 07-15-2011 04:39 PM

its a chore truck with a pretty decent clutch(not sure exactly was in it when i bought it) but i need it to be reliable.... but i need it to be fun... ;-)

1STGENFARMBOY 07-18-2011 12:09 AM

1st_gen_puller 07-29-2011 11:30 AM

i havent advanced it any... is it easier to advance it a tooth or just the regular advancement... seems the reg advancing would be easier... i'm into ease... lol
