You will eat your clutch before you tear that tranny up. Usually when the getrags blow up is when they get caught in between two gears and bust the synchronizers. This is due to the cast aluminum shift forks that wear out faster than you can replace them. If the getrag still shifts crisply don't worry about it. If you shell it, swap in an nv4500, pretty easy upgrade. If you just turn your pump up you will be fine. My dad tore up two rear ends that had the getrag in front of them. If you turn your pump up to about a 1-1.5 turns to max and run a ground fuel pin, expect 14-16mpg with 4.10s and 16-18mpg with 3.55s. If you don't run a ground pin and keep your foot out of it, you will see a little better mpg. Make sure you have a 4 in dp and big air filter and a pyro gauge before you even touch that pump.

So is that shift fork something to be concerned about is there an up grade fork

source automotive for the dp

don't worry about the shift forks..if you have trouble shifting into first or reverse, pop the top off and see if they are worn.

If you are real rambunctious, pull the forks out and machine some copies out of billet. That is what I was gonna do but you can buy replacements for like 70 bucks.
