Workin on my first VE truck... Injector and transmission questions..

Hey guys,

I got a guy that brought me an 89 D250 to work on.. To call it a pooch is an understatement. LOL. Top speed is about 60 mph with your foot in the boards. It's an auto, and I believe non OD. I think the sluggish behavior is due to throttle cable stretch/misadjustment as if you push real hard when you're on the boards, you can get more rpm.

The owner wants to start building HP cause he intends to pull this engine out and use it in a 1950 Chevy 2 ton that he's restoring. He plans to put a NV4500 behind it at that point. He wants me to put on an Airdog Raptor, and set of bigger injectors as the truck has 200,000 + miles on it. So, the plan as of now is to put a set of 7x10 injectors on it, raptor fuel pump, and figure out the throttle linkage.. With turbo upgrades in the future. I plan to leave the pump alone for now as he'll be far exceeding the capabilities of that tranny with those sticks if he turns it up right now. LOL

Anything I'm misssing? I also plan to tab the KDP while I've got it here.

I'm not real familiar with these rotary pump motors. I've done quite a bit with P-pump jobs, and I've got a rotary in my tractor, but that's basically bone stock with advanced timing. Just lookin' for any little tips and tricks to look at...

Thanks!

Turning up the pre 94 Ram diesel injector pump
The VE's are very simple, check that thread out and you'll find out all you need to know. :tu: Oh and dont forget to support Denny T and buy one of his fuel pins! Talk to Brice from Big Bad Diesel, he can hook you up with all kinds of go-fast stuff for the old first gens.

Thanks for the info guys.

This beast looks like it's gonna be fun. :tu: Lots of room to work in there!

3200 spring for sure that will help the "slugish" feel and top speed. That stock 727 will last forever... the crappy stock converter wont let enough power through to let it hurt itself. :D

Also gonna need a turbo. something quick spooling that will flow some air would be best in that beast of a truck he wants to put it in. Low end torque is gonna be what he wants.

I actually have a few questions about the old 727. Im really considering "maxing out" my pump but like everyone else, automatic transmissions worry me. I already have a 32k spring and some minor pump tweaks. Just kind of wondering how much i can actually go before things start getting scary. :humm: Sorry for hijacking your thread deerefanatic.
