Shift Kits?

So Ive been looking at getting a shift kit for the ole' 727 to kinda fix that grindy start and mushy shifting. I found a kit from Transgo and i was wondering if anyone has used Transgo or what you would recommend. Thanks for any info.

Save yourself a bunch of wondering and doubt . . . . CALL the folks at TransGo and explain to them exactly what you plan of doing with your truck and they will steer you toward that kit that'll best suit your needs. ;)

I use TransGo stuff in my mess with good success. :pca1:

Re: Shift Kits?

I use the transgo kit also and it works great call them and they will give you the number kit to Get. then call them back and they will walk you through it if you need to. They were a big help. Also I went with goerend for thr t/c works great.

:tu:The trans go kits use to be very reasonably price now they combined them to fit a wide range of years & trans makes for dodge trucks first one i purchased was about $35.00 for a 727 now the same kit is about $80.00 & you wont use every thing in the kit Also i have used quite a few of them they seem to work very well next best thing would be a performance valve body But now your taking some $$$$$

to my knowledge the only 727 valve body they make is for the gasser spec transmission. Gov pressures are different. now if you had a good trans guy you could probably buy the valve body and have your trans guy put a diesel gov assembly in it. RSWORDS just eliminated the governor and put a full manual 727 valve body in his.

the gov is in the tail shaft not in the valve body there is no reason why you could not use a manual valve body

in the tail shaft? not trying to stir "it" up but if the pump is in the front and all other fluid circuits, shift adjustments thru springs and fluid redirection; and so on, being part of the valve body function. Plus all the hype about gov pressures increasing after valvebody modification, wouldnt it make more sense for the gov assembly to be in the main body? probably idealistically near or part of the valvebody... just saying... i'm no trans expert. and my point wasnt that you couldnt use a manual VB. just saying there arent any aftermarket 727 valvebodies that are diesel specific, so you'd assume a manual VB for a gasser 727 would be your only option

but for something a little more constructive, i called and asked the transgo tech guys which would be the best to use. he said hands down the TF-2 just dont install the low override. this kit allows you to drop it into 1st at any speed which could be very harmful going 60 mph. :c:

I just rebuilt one the other day for a friend & low & behold the gov was still on the rear tail shaft May be after you take 100+ 727,s apart you will be able to find the gov good luck

like i said man not tryin to stir stuff up, that was the assumption i was under... no need to get all ruffled up.

that is all right just was having a bad day If you want to build your own trans get a core & a manual & you will be surprised at how easy a 727 can be to build I like to use mopar racing clutches
