Fuel pin a hoax?
I had a pump tech tell me that fuel pins for the ve are just a gimmick and if your fuel screw is at runaway an afc pin isnt going to give you more power just smoke. Is this true if not why not?
|
Mine runs whole lot faster with it in. And yes the pump is maxed. Keep in mind that as you ad fuel you need to add air or it will get smokey as with any mod.

Well I can see some truth to it, to a certain extent. Through taking apart my pump top more often than I'd like, I've come to the conclusion that an aftermarket fuel pin does nothing at its deepest point of travel. The little pin which rides on the fuel pin has a maximum amount of travel. With my DennyT the little pin will only ride about three quarters of the way up the fuel pin intel it is maxed, leaving the deepest part of the pin usesless. At lower boost levels however you will notice more fuel being delivered quicker. There is definitely some power to be gained though, and well worth the 100 dollars for an extra 20-30 hp, that is if you don't feel like grinding your own.:rocking:

Hmm thats interesting. So your saying as the afc goes down to the "flat" part of an aggressive fuel pin the pin that rides on the fuel pin isnt even touching it?
|
That is what I am saying. You will notice some difference with an upgraded fuel pin though, as it does allow the pin to travel a little further out as compared to a stock pin. There was a dyno run posted a while ago with an upgraded fuel pin and it was good for 25-30 hp. My favorite thing is having the fuel sooner to spool my turbo at lower boost:rocking:

The fuel pin and the full power spring control two totally different things. Pins are good for some power and really can help you fine tune your fuel delivery.

This thread describes more in detail to what I'm trying to describe:c: |
Looks more like a pin travel issue. Where is your star wheel set at?
|
My M&H M2 pin delivers way less fuel on the no boost end then the stock cone had and also fuels way harder on the deep end. I was able to take 1 full turn out of the fuel screw to keep my boost at 45 psi. From my experence and my truck the pin was good for about 5 pounds of boost by itself. More boost= more fuel= more power. Tell the pump tech he is a gimmick.:tu:
