twin turboing a ve pump
 
I would like to twin turbo my 12v. i want to use a hx 35 over a hx55 turbos. my goal is to make as much tow able power out of a ve pump that i can. i was thinking 5x16 injectors and a airdog 150 lift pump. also this thread is just about the motor and turbos plz dont start telling me im going to blow a auto tranny i know and plan a manual swap im just looking for input on twinturboing it. id like over 350rwhp the closer i can to get 450-500 on a ve and still be able to tow id love it. im thinking ill upgrade the rad and use a ps intercooler. i want to build all the piping for the twins my self i have beat some turbo kits for cars so i think im able to do that. Id plan to use a 4 or 5"
exhuast and a 4" pipe from turbo to turbo for exhuast. i was thinking like 3 or 3.5" pipes for the air from turbo to turbo and the biggest air filter i can fit. i think for now ill just used a fliped stock exhuast manifold maybe later ill pick up a bd diesel aftermarket manifold as they say they flow better. well give your input guys and let me know

For me, I'm doing something along the same lines. I don't need you telling me that I don't need twins. I don't care. I want to put twins in my truck, I'm going to put twins in my truck. Properly setup the twins will still be more efficient than a single.

I've got my 12v VE in an F350, I'm shooting for the 400hp range as well. I'm thinking of using my 18cm H1C over an HX55, the reason I am staying with the 18cm is too keep cruising fuel consumption down, and I don't find the lag that bad. It's certainly less than the powerstroke I drive for work.

Because I have the available space I'm going to make an adapter and run external waste gates under the H1C, plumbing back into the feed for the HX55. I will also be using marine custom sewed together thermal wrap for my turbo system from the manifold to the downpipe connecting to the remainder of the exhaust.

I still haven't decided on the injectors I want yet, but do have a pretty firm plan on my turbo layout.

I know a guy who just did a set of twins on his truck and he did a awesome job too. These twins are gorgeous. I can find out what size of turbos he used

Occasionally other people benefit when I share knowledge and understanding I have. It appears that the OP wants to modify his engine along the same lines that I do. It doesn't hurt to continue reading even when one has a plan already. There are a number of tricks and ideas I've picked up from online forums that have expanded my ability to do a quality job.

Where as your post, and the post I originally quoted added nothing constructive to this thread.

So JBradley, do you have any thing constructive in regards to fitting twins on the 5.9L for this "low" HP application?

I'm using a 90 degree manifold from an industrial application which sits my turbo real high. In the Ford engine bay, this gives me significant room to place the HX55 where ever I want while keeping the plumbing simple. The original reason I went to the industrial manifold is the Dodge manifold pushed the H1C too far to the right(thinking in direction of normal travel), which meant that the turbine housing would have been up against my A/C evaporator housing.

Actually, in fact it was due to posts on this site which lead me to purchase "Turbochargers" by Hugh MacInnes which has given me a significant amount of knowledge in regards to sizing compounds and even calculating my final density ratios for both turbos after intercooling and heating of the compressed charge.

I still have not figured out what injectors I want to use yet, so that in itself is enough reason to stick around this site to see what others who have similar aspirations use.

ill say what i think... im not stating that im an expert or anything but...

sounds like your setup is going to be laggy. your h1c doesnt flow much air and spools slow. your hx55 would be ok in a set of small towing twins (depending on which one it is). you probably wont support much power before it gets too hot and ill say again its going to be laggy.

i dont get it... you have the 2 things you dont want with twins. lag and lacking the ability to cool.

I have an aesthetic dislike for internal wastegatea turbochargers.

The primary reason for me to keep the 18cm3 housing(18.5?) is to prevent boost while at highway speeds unloaded. I find with manual transmission I can keep my boost and rpm in ranges I enjoy.

The larger displacement housing lowers egt by allowing greater mass flow.

I will have some minor lag from 0-10psi, but once my h1c starts to light it wakes up fast. The hx55 should follow suit. This set of twins will be setup for towing mostly and having some fun on the street. I'm not interested in more than 400hp, that is certain.

i love my hx35-hx55 setup empty i can only hit 900* foot to the floor , towing i can only hit 1000* foot to the floor,( and that is towing a 25' tandem dually goosneck with a john deere 410J backhoe in the mountains). my setup is not laggy at all and makes great power at 404hp and 880tq.
