the fan cranks itself if i disengage the fan manually, let it get to about 230, and turn the fan on, it cools it down to 190 in minutes even while driving

sorry to be the bare for bad news here but the tuarus fan is about 1-1 1/4 thicker than the cummins original mechanical fan i have maybe 3/4" clearance with the elctrics and aboyt 2" with the mechanical one. i like the two electric idea so im still going that route

i know theyre thicker than a cummins fan but theyre slimmer than most oem electric fans.

i am also going to be a bearer or bad news. you cannot get two of these vertically on a stock cummins radiator. im using a non intercooled radiator (wider than an intercooled) and there is no possible way to get two. i was able to get one vertically all the way on one side and im about 3" too narrow to get a 2nd one. and i trimmed the first one as far back as even possible without touching the fan blades itself.

im just going to use the one taurus fan and like a 14" fan that only kicks on when i get over 210 for towing and whatnot

im using the powerstroke radiator whick is actually only 306in wide and im trimming it down to fit both vertically ill take some pics the blade will actually overhang the radiator by about 1 inch o each side which is fine then it can suck some additional air threw just the intercooler

the fan itself (not including the shroud at all) is 17 inches wide. therefore if they pretty much touch eachother, its 34" wide. im going to run 1 taurus fan and 1 smaller fan next to it.

The "taurus" fan upgrade is a popular one in the off-road crowd... What you are looking for is a '90 to '95 Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable with the 3.8L or a '90 to '94 Lincoln Continental

Just be forewarned that these fans can draw upwards of 100 amps on start up... Unfortunately their wiring was never made to withstand that kind of current draw...
All it takes is a seized bearing or other mechanical failure and they can (and have) start fires...

Not much you can do to prevent it either - If you fuse (or circuit breaker) it at 50 amps you will likely pop the fuse half the time when your fan tries to comes on, if you fuse it at 100 amps it could start a fire...

i had a certified electrical engineer that builds spyware computers for the government wire mine with me. i think mine will be just fine:c:

not to mention the other groups of people who have wired them the same online and never had any problems.

and as for fusing it at 100 amps and starting a fire, if you have a built in breaker, and large enough wire. your probably not going to start any fires. i dont think you can get 8 gauge hot enough to catch fire before flipping the breaker. and just so you know before the 100 amp relay, there is a 15 amp fuse before that for circuit protection. everything operated as is supposed to

The wiring issues with these fans is not anything that you can easily fix... it is internal to the motor...


If you are happy with it that is all that matters...

yes they definitely do. my single fan handles my daily driving plenty fine! i just want to add a 2nd little one that can kick on during high ac usage in traffic or heavy heavy towing etc just to give it that extra little kick
