Default How hot is too hot?

I know I've seen threads like this but can't find any now. Just wondering how hot is too hot and for how long. My truck is pretty much used 80%of the time for towing it's no big deal to be towing 20k. Anyway I was towing the nasty hill coming out of Las Cruces pulling a race car and a kubota and it went over 1200 degrees for a bit but I didn't know if that was ok so I backed out. It's not uncommon when I'm towing a big load to sit between 800-1000 degrees on flat land. Whatcha think?

800-1000 is good towing! you can run your truck at 1200 all day with no problems. When you get into 1300 thats the limit. i do know that a guy can put his truck way past 1300 but don't hold it there but for a few second's. Hope that helps.

pre-turbo i'd have to say tickling 1200 is as hot as i'd feel comfortable with. aluminum starts to melt not much higher than that; but then again there is a slight buffer b/c of heat transfer and dissapation. post turbo is abit vague, i've heard of variations of around 300* so... 1000 post turbo is my comfortzone; i dont haul but anywhere around 900 i start to ease up

Aluminum melts @ 1220.666*. There isn't a flat piece of road anywhere around where I live. Just driving around town, I'm over 800*. Main St. in Lead is like at least 8% grade. I have a GDS 14cm exhaust housing ordered, ya think there will be too much of an increase in egts for the old girl? Or should I just move.

muskrat i love how you;d rather move than give up on the old girl... drive presures and EGT's should be ok; the 14cm housing is a pretty well rounded housing so i dont think you have anything to worry about. maybe back off the full fuel 1/2 a turn (i know its a sin)

Cool. I'm excited to get it. I ordered it as well as the 60mm wheel, but the wheel is on back order, so they'll ship the whole order when they get the compressor upgrades in. I PMed Thomas (M&H) tonight and I'm getting the M4 pin ordered. The Black Hills are fixin to get blacker.
