Stuck fuel pin

Ive run into a problem with the fuel pin it wont come out. it will rotate around. when i push and release it it feels like it is contacting something solid inside on the upward stroke. Im not real familiar with the VE pump and dont wanna break anything any suggestions would be great.

Any ideas guys?

RSWORDS 01-05-2009 07:44 PM

hhhmmmm.... The other pin might be stuck out... Wiggle it around some and try again. Use a little bit of pressure. Kinda hard to break anything in there but odder things have happend.

The pin that rides on the fuel pin comes in from the front. so try to push it back into its hole with teh fuel pin if you catch my drift.

Also maybe cycle teh throttle a few time with the truck off. Keep playing with it it will come out!
Good luck!

I figured it out this morning i am putting the 3200RPM spring in so i just pulled the top off the pump sure enough the small pin inside was stuck in i put some PB on it and pryed a few times the pin finally came loose i was then able to pull the AFC pin and diaphram out there was all kinds of orange junk on it . I figure i was only getting half the fuel i was suppost to be getting. I think its time for a denny pin and some PODs

By the way RSWORDS you were exactly right what happend thanks for the tip.

What year is the engine? If it was a non-I/Ced engine skip the POD's

That pin gets stuck on occasion.

There's a seal around that pin, and when it fails it floods the AFC with fuel. I took apart a VE once that had that seal fail, and whoever fixed it before just caulked in the AFC with some sort of white sticky sealant. It took a lot of prying to get the pin out.

The AFC cone comes out easiest if you rotate it to its shallowest setting first. If you look at the picture in the following link, you can see how the cone is tapered all the way to the base on the shallow side, while the deep side has a lip that catches the pin.

Its an 89 non I/C.What sticks do you think i should use.

Begle1 01-07-2009 12:59 PM

The best stick to get first would be the one that looks like two snails and spins around really really fast. The stock injectors are less of a performance bottleneck than the air filter, air intake, turbocharger, or even torque convertor.

Diesel Scout 01-07-2009 04:46 PM

the exhaust, airfilter have been upgraded i am planning on a turbo upgrade but for now it runs pretty good considering the scout only weighs 4200lbs

RSWORDS 01-07-2009 05:20 PM

A GDS 60mm Upgrade to the turbo and th eStock injectors would be all you can use in that scout!
