Power stroke turbo on Ve 5.9
Hey guys noob member here. Here's the story I have a neighbor with a junkyard and he's got a turbo from a late model 7.3 laying around. I love tinkering and in general can't leave anything alone . I was wondering if putting that turbo on my 5.9 would make any difference in power compared to the stock one ? My truck has the fuel screws adjusted and all the other free power mods with a fuel pin on the way. I'm not worried about the practicality of the swap just wanted to here some opinions so fire away!

Little bit of extra info here: I'm not a big guru on turbo compressor and turbine sizes so I'm wondering how the bigger Garret would affect bottom end grunt and overall top end power. I will be back home this weekend so I'll be able to get the proper numbers and model of the junkyard turbo

Hmm not much input yet. Hoping this isn't posted in the wrong section

A stock 7.3 turbo already doesn't spool very quick.... so they make smaller, 'quickspool' exhaust housings (0.85 AR, iirc).
Now take the displacement penalty going 7.3 -> 5.9, and lower rpm range, I think it may be a disappointing endeavour. :humm: |
Hey guys little update university is keeping me super busy so not much time for the truck but I took another look at the junkyard truck and it's actually a 6.0 hurrrdurrr not sure how I missed that but it changes the game entirely. I've read another guys post about putting a vvt turbo on a 12 valve and I think it's an interesting concept but my biggest issue to get around would be to make a controller to get full use of the turbo
