1992 6BT info needed
Looking for info on some slight power upgrades for a 92 cummins 6BT 230 hp with a allison 6 speed its in a 33 ft winnabago that i have recently purchased the engine only has 38000 miles on it and seems to be lacking a lot in power thinking the pump and injectors are either weak or really dirty any suggestions would be appreciated ...Barry

We can do what you need. It will be helpful to know the replacement part # so I can see if the extra rated hp of 230HP is in the injectors or the pump. Call cummins and give them your engine serial number and get price and part # for replacement injectors then give us a call. You will be happy.
Also know the HP/torque rating of your transmission. We do not want to create any problems with too much power. |
Check simple things like fuel filter/LP, timing, throttle travel and possible trans issues before assuming the pump or injectors might be bad/dirty. Very unlikely in a 38k engine.
That thing is barely broken in. |
progress
:dang:Well installed a new lift pump (the old one was siezed)..it ran great for 2 days and started loseing power and stalling the stalling is a new thing..Replaced large water seperator still acts like it runs low on fuel and then runs OK for a bit then the loss of power again up and down.Could the new lift pump from cummins be gone or is this a plugged filter ...A question could I run a in line fuel pump for a lift pump and what would the maximum pressure for the fuel lift pump be.. :argh:

What is the condition of the fuel tank?
Sounds like it is clogging the filter. |
You might want to check the fuel pump pressure. New parts can malfunction

Dirt
Pulled the filter closest to the tank and opened it had a good quantity of rust and rust colored sluge seems I have a rusty tank and just after a fill..Do diesel tanks have any screen in the tank sump or are they just a open line.Is it worth the time to try flushing or just look for a clean one or are there any types of liners...thanks for your time guys..

My experience is that Diesel does not cause rust. It's water in the tank that causes rust. On my farm tanks I put on good filters with water traps and got along fine. the filter was at the lowest place on the tank so the water would drain to that point.

Yes all my filters are above the tank and there is no way to put them below tank is not 12 in. above the road looks like the screen in the tank is plugging ...Looks like a messy job needs to be done ...hi ho hi ho and its off to work we go...
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- My computer keys stick..it has 138000 km on it ... |
I would replace the tank. Cleaning/lining bad fuel tanks is not always a successful solution. Often that approach just takes more time and money and you end up no better off than when you started.
