Upgrade direction

I am very new to the diesel world

Looking for the main avenues to research regarding fuel milage, power, and reliability.

I have a 2001 2500 manual 5 speed. This truck is bone stock. I bought it to pull my 10k rated 18ft trailer that has my 3650lb rock crawler loaded on it.

I get a 18 mpg average without trailer and 15 mpg average with.

Names of good products to check out or bad ones to steer clear of would be appreciated as well.

First you should start with a good aftermarket lift pump (airdog, fass) to maintain higher than 10psi fuel preasure at all times and some gauges (egt, fuel pressure, and boost). An aftermarket intake and free flowing 4 inch exhaust would be the next step and then you can look into getting a chip such as an edge comp. The comp would give you a good bump in power and mpg. Adding the chip you may want to consider a clutch if you plan on running the chip on higher levels and I'd recommend upgrading the input ahaft and going with whats called the 13'' upgrade. Valair or southbend are both very good clutches its just a matter of your choice.

Do what I did. I am more than ecstatic with the preformance and did it or under $1800 bucks. I bet you could do it less if you posted in the sponsor section, it's always good to support the ones who support the site!:jump:

Ok.... So Air Dog has a Type 1 & 2.... not sure on any other difference than a built in adjuster.

I see that the type 1 has a 100 or 150 GPH. Both can be bought with or without the in tank fuel pump? Please explain the reason behind this.

The type 2 has a built in adjustable regulator and talks of Demand Flow.

What is the difference between Gallons Per Hour and Direct Flow?

With the type 1 having the option of a 100 or 150 (with or without a in tank pump) and the type 2 having the option of a 165 or a 200, what are the differences so I figure out what will work best for me?
