stacks

i love the way stacks look and i know there are some pro's and con's, but would stacks be to much for a child? i have a 9 month old and she rides in the back seat (i have a sliding rear window as well) and i dont want to screw up her hearing bc i like the way it looks. i live in a small town and nobody has stacks and if they do its on a power stroke and it has mufflers, so im not sure how loud they are going to be in my 24v straight piped.

thanks in advance!

I have dual 8 aussies with 5 inch turbo back and no muffler. They have a very noticable in cab drone. They arent extremely loud with the windows up but, Ive been told from neighbors about a mile away they kno if I start my truck up. We also have a 4 door dodge here at the shop with 5 inch turbo back and daul 6" miters, this truck has sliding rear window and the cab drone in it is horrible, dont know if the sliding glass makes a diff. You could always add a muffler. To me its not that the stacks are crazy loud its the cab drone.

I had a 7 in mitre on mine for alittle before i switched to a 5 inch exhaust all the way back, outside i dont think it was much louder, but inside the cab it was louder and like said above had more in cab drone.

You WILL need a muffler if you don't want the cab drone to be too bad. Mine dumps before the tire and I couldn't take it anymore, had to add a muffler. I had stacks on my 12v and it ruined it. if you wanted to drive with the windows down you couldnt listen to the radio and it didnt have A/c... :argh: cab drone was bad at higher steady rpms but I think a CR would be worse. I like the way stacks look too. I do know the turn out stacks are not as bad as like flat or miter cut stacks when angled away from the cab

my stacks are 6in above cab. i have no drone. no muffler. 4in down pipe 5in to y pipe then 6in ypipe and mitre cut stacks. single cab. as long as the stacks go above the cab you should not have any drone.

i had 8 inch bullhaulers on my 06 3500 and they were loud but not deafening.. bullhaulers do point outwards though so it directs the sound away from the truck a bit and took the drone out of the cab

I have them on my 01 Attachment 23758 4" to an 8x8 box no muffler. Drone I hate it. My uncle had them on his 06 QC and had to put a muffler on it after test driving it after installing stacks. Personally I wont do it again.

You could check a big rig shop like Pittsburghpower.com for some 5" or 6" performance truck mufflers.:jump:

See if you can find an aeroturbine muffler, they're all stainless and the "xl" series has a built in resonator that helps kill the drone. It doesn't eliminate the drone... I drove 18 hours at highway speed 2800 rpm or so with 4" turbo back. I could still hear myself think after the trip. The muffler doesn't ruin the sound of the truck, I love mine. And as suggested before; elevating the exhaust slightly above the cab drastically decreases in can noise
