5in Exhaust

I have a straight pipe right now and the only other mods I have are the Banks CAI and the aFe intake horn. Would it be a good idea to run a 5in straight, I have seem some other posts in here about guys running the 5in straight and say that its to big unless you have an upgraded turbo. Not enough back pressure to maintain a good running temp, I'm not pulling any heavy loads or doing any racing. Would installing a 5in straight be worth the money other than a differant sound?

I have one on my stock turbo 2001 ans its runs fine. I love the sound. that back pressure is some bull at it stays the same from the small space of the exhaust wheel and exit also a 4inch down pipe is used to clear the firewall tranny.

A 4" down pipe is used? I don't think that's true for 04-07. AFAIK, the 04-07 5.9 5" kits (like expandit) include a 5" direct fit flange. Can anyone clarify?

Re: 5in Exhaust

03-04 uses 4" DP
04.5+ uses 5" DP

I was looking at the 5in expandit kit from Diesel Dawgs and now another question. On the site there is a kit for the 03 and another for the 04-07, would i need to get the 03 since i have the early 04 and not 04.5?

Thats a question for luke. Mine was a 2001 so it was a 3 in flange to 4 inch DP

I just put a 5 inch straight pipe Flo Pro kit on mine, and its a 5 inch dp , sounds awesome and runs fine, temp is always where it was before, its a bit loud for most people tho

I don't mind the louder, just wondering if what I read about it dropping the temps to much and then lags.

5in just changes the sound. You can run it with a stock turbo just fine. Gives the exhaust a deeper drone. I like my 4in, less drone, more turbo whistle :choochoo:

If yours is an early 04 then order 03 Kit. :rocking:
