steering box brace

Just got the brace in and going to install it ASAP. From what I have read they do seem to help the wandering problem quite a bit.

hydroshok 05-29-2011 09:58 PM

Let me know because I was thinking about one...

commtrd 05-31-2011 09:22 PM

got it installed

I installed the CD steering box brace (looks like they are all built the same from looking at the pictures) and it really did help to tighten up the steering. Pretty much eliminates the wandering feeling in the front end. I cannot detect any binding in the shaft extension through the bearing carrier so looks good. For the money this is a very good mod and I would recommend doing this to any 3rd gen truck with 4X4.

steering brace

installed steering brace over the weekend.works great.

The steering box brace is an AWESOME upgrade for and 2nd or 3rd gen trucks. Steering tightens up big time, and you lower your chance of death wobble.

hydroshok 06-01-2011 07:41 PM

Nice. I'll have to add that to the list....

coffey303 06-07-2011 09:14 AM

How long did it take to install? Mine should be in any day now. Thanks

commtrd 06-07-2011 09:36 AM

It took me about an hour because I was really concerned about getting the bearing carrier aligned properly to keep the sector shaft extension from getting in a bind. Now I could do one in about twenty minutes.

This little mod is definitely one of the best things that can be done to the truck. Steering tightened up nicely and stopped the wandering. If the brace is installed and no lifts and big tires/wheels are added the steering components have a good probability of working well for a long time. Adding the brace is definitely recommended.

X2!! The brace really hepled mine with wandering on these crowned and choppy PA roads. Excelent upgrade:rocking:

Just ordered my brace. I cant wait to install that puppy and so i'll no longer look like a drunk driver!

commtrd 08-02-2011 11:02 AM

The brace made a huge improvement in steering on my truck. And it had 40000 miles on it at the time. It seems criminal that dodge would put these trucks out on the road without a better design so that an after market device is needed to make the truck safe to drive.

dalton06 08-06-2011 09:58 PM

Oh yeah had mine for few months now. Works great

BLACKSMOKEMOAN 08-09-2011 07:36 AM

my 12v with 35s was almost undriveable without it...my 3rd gen doesnt wander at all though? I still want one to relieve my steering box

1AMatt 08-09-2011 01:35 PM

I have noticed 3rd gen trucks steering to be a little tighter than a 2nd... Maybe cuz Dodge put a slightly better trac bar in the truck

BACONBITSFORU 08-09-2011 01:39 PM

this only for 4x4?

1AMatt 08-09-2011 01:44 PM

Hmmm that is actually a good question :humm: Im pretty sure the steering box is the same in a 2wd. Not positive about the rest of the mounting tho...

BACONBITSFORU 08-09-2011 01:50 PM

ok I was just checking if I needed it or not lol

1AMatt 08-09-2011 02:00 PM

I dont think you would need to put one in yours. I have ridden in a few 2wd 2nd gens with over 100k on the stock front end and they ride like a Cadillac.

You guys got me excited to install mine. My wife won the steering stabilizer at a diesel show and shine. I should pick it up next week it's made by BD power.

:jump:

themoperman68 08-18-2011 03:30 PM

Steering stabilizer and a steering box brace are 2 different things.

markpare 08-18-2011 03:41 PM

The part I am getting connects the frame below the track bar brackets and attaches to the bottom of the steering box.
