Tank pressure?

Well I put my airdog on my truck last night. Dropped the tank and took off the old fuel lines. Got everything put back together, started the truck and fuel started pouring out of the top of the tank. Found it was coming out of the original grommet where the old lines tied in (we just taped over the the spigot things where the lines hooked up to plug the hole. My question is: is it normal for there to be enough pressure in the tank to push fuel out the top (with half a tank of fuel) through the old grommet. The truck was running fine and I'm sure it could be a bad grommet but I find it strange that theres pressure in the tank.

Hmmm Not sure what your saying here so I'll guess! You plumbed in the airdog with a new pickup? where did you put the return line? If you bypassed the original in and out from the in tank sender then there is no way for fuel to come out! The pump will pull fuel from the tank send it to the CP3 and the remiander will be sent back to the tank. There is no way more fuel is returning to the tank than is being drawn out! Recheck your plumbing something is hooked up wrong!

I know where it's coming from and how it all plumbs in, All i want to know is it normal to have pressure in the tank (enough to push fuel out a leaky grommet)?

No not normal! should be a vacuum not pressure!

Kinda what I was thinkin? Is there anything on the tank or anything I need to check? The pump was working fine, asnd the engine was running smooth. I plumbed it all in just like the instructions said, and none of my lines are leaking, so I'm truly befuddled.

Magic truck! Making fuel instead of using it! Another issue may be the pump is to big for the mods you have. If your engine uses very little fuel and the pump is just diverting most of the fuel back to the tank causing it to heat up and expand.
On a side note set your pressure at 12psi max. The CP3 hates high pressure and will prematurely fail at higher pressures.

Ok, how would I go about lowering it to 12?

I hope it's adjustable my raptor is with a set screw. Call them up and ask if nothing is in the paper work. Do you have a low pressure guage? What is it reading now?

Black Smoke Mafia 01-01-2011 11:59 PM

I never looked for it in the paperwork i dont have it avalible at the moment. And no, I dont have any kind of fuel pressure gauge. But I can give air dog a call. I'm just gonna plug that leak off and solve that problem!

If you don't want to put a guage in the cab get a little inline guage pre CP3. e-bay has the 1" ones cheap. It's good to know where your at!
