just a random question

why do the older cummins (before 2003) sound better??

cerberus60 07-12-2010 05:46 PM

Short answer, they don't. :D

There were a lot of changes from the 12V and 24V to a CR engine that were done for NVH initiatives and emissions compliance. The result is things change, sound just being one of the many.

pilot injection

Diff exhaust manifold setup, difference in injectors and pressures and how many times they fire during the cycles are the major reasons.

Its funny, when I got my cummins, I liked how quiet it was. I spent money to make it noisy again LOL
