Aftermarket Injector???
 

It seems these 3rd gens have injector issues and they really seem to be hit and miss. I was wondering anybody has had any issues with any of the aftermarket injectors failing, Don M, DPP, ect... If not is just seems to make more sense to swap out the factory injectors just as PM to avoid any future issues??? Yes?

I was worrying about my injectors so I took them out and sent them to Don M.
The truck wasn't showing any of the normal bad injector syndrome, the truck just seemed down on power.
It turns out they weren't my problem but hey I have freshened injectors with more HP now!

I wouldn't worry about it. If you use the truck how it was intended to be used and you take care of the fuel filter and use good, clean fuel you should have nothing to be concerned about. I'n running stock injectors in my truck and everything is fine. However, I use Howe's in it with every tank and I change the filter every 5k and I use a Premium 7 micron Stratopore from Fleetguard. I also use good fuel from a good station.

Injectors on a 3rd gen truck can still be trouble. Aftermarket units need to built on good bodies and they need to be part of the solution not the solution. A good pump, an understanding of rail pressures (with a gauge) a good pump (CP3 and LP with gauge) and nice clean fuel will go a long way in assisting this problem.

I'm asking more of a question then anything, are the aftermarket injectors failing? If not, then that seems like a good PM way to go, long term. I already know about additives, fuel filters, etc...

not to stir the pot here or create any debate, but I would get a 2 micron filter. Bosche designed the things with a 2 micron filter and dodge installs a 7? to me that is just a way to save initial money. you can do all that and still have injector failure.

if you want to change them out for PM, just call Don M and get his advice. He will shoot straight and not be a salesman and just try to sell you injectors you may not need.

I've given this some thought too Tye. I haven't had any injector problems, but I don't doubt that it will happen one day. My dads 04.5 with 120k miles on it has at least one bad injector, but he only notices it on cold startup. I told him to call Don M about it and get himself a set of injectors, but I don't think he has done it yet. Personally, I am going to wait till I start having problems before I fix it, don't fix what aint broke, and all that. I have other vehicles to drive though, so if something does happen, I can afford for my truck to be down for a while if need be.

Filtration and corrosion are key. A Solenoid fire injector will never be as reliable as a "poppet" style injector. As much as they are better for emissions, any amount of corrosion/airation will damage a solenoid fired injector in a heart beat. Filtration is a key part to this. Another thing I was told is the the tips are not as well built as other, thus leading to cracking, heat distortion, etc... However, this is on a more a case to case basis than a overall grouping.
