High egts on stock truck!?!?!?
 

Hi, my bro has an 05 dodge cummins and a few months ago we put in a set of glowshift gauges... Egts, fuel pressure and boost. Every thing works great except the egt gauge.(we think).
The truck was all stock when we put them on. If u get on the throttle hard even without a trailer the egts go up to 1500!!! With a load u can peg the gauge. 1600!
Im wondering if we put it at the wrong spot on the manifold? Or if the gauge is bad? The probe is ok cause we swapped it out and that didn't change a thing. And if it is accurate then why isn't the turbo a melted heap of metal?
I will try to attach a photo of the probe... It's on the back of the two that go down to the turbo. Not up on the flat but down where the manifold is "vertical"

you probably have a problem with the glowshift gauges. ive heard many stories of them being like 4-600 degress off before. thats why alot of people are shying away from them it seems like. just remember you get what you pay for.

ive had glowshifts for quite a while and have not had any problems, i even compared them to my old egde with attitude and the egt was 100 off but everything else was just the same. i would rechecked all your connections first and try to trace the problem

I've heard of stock CR trucks running hot before, but that was under max load in the mountains. I'm guessing either your gauge is bad or the truck isn't as stock as you think. Did he buy the truck BRAND NEW? If not, it's a possibility the previous owner had some sort of "tune" downloaded on the PCM adding extra fuel.

I called glowshift and they will test it and send a new one if it's bad... So hopefully that fixes the problem!! Have to pay shipping both ways but owell...
We checked all the connections several times so I dont think that's what it is...
And dieseldude, my dad has an 06 just like my brothers 05 and I am 99.9% positive that it is stock compared to my dads with his MP8 turned off...

Does the picture look like we put the probe at the ideal spot?

The probe position is OK. The temps are likely OK also. A stock 05 can push 1600 degrees easily. Its the way they run for emissions purposes. The Glowshift gauges may just be reading a little higher than say an Autometer or ISSPRO but its fairly close.

Add a boost fooler so the max boost gets up around 35-40 psi and you will see the EGT's come down. Also, either buy or build a better air intake system as that will somewhat choke it. Take the stock muffler and toss it if you haven't already, they are too restrictive and will cause an EGT spike.

Do the above and you should be able to take 150-250 degrees off your max EGT's.
