Which Setup

Im currently debating whether I go all edge attitude with hot juice or quad commander with the race box.
or the commander with edge hot juice.

the hot juice is 160hp and the race box is 140hp

Ive heard a lot of good things about the quad stuff and they have good after market support. but i see more people running the edge

Diesel Dawgs Performance 08-27-2007 09:23 PM

I have actually sold more Quadzilla stuff than Edge Products due to the price differences.

:bombin:

GRI 08-28-2007 05:12 AM

yeah I saw there was a few hundred difference. Im just not sure what the commander comes with. thermocouple, temp sensor. ect

Johnny Cetane 08-28-2007 08:06 AM

i'm going to move this over to the 3rd gen cummins area

Well, you can see from my sig what I did. Also, one thing to note is that the Hot level for the 04.5-05 is actually 180 HP and 440 TQ. If you get the Edge stuff for your truck make sure that whoever you buy it from has the new stuff in stock. This will allow for the 6 levels which is stock or level 0 through level 6 which is the Hot level. It also allows for the built in turbo timer feature. The older models didn't have the turbo timer nor did they have level 6. They just added the Hot to level 5 and then all of the other settings moved down a notch leaving you with less adjustability.

GRI 08-28-2007 09:23 AM

how new?

staarma 08-28-2007 11:17 AM

Hmmmm...you may want to call Edge and see what serial number or model designation they have for it. If you are talking to a Dealer, etc. they should be able to tell you what features it has. The way to tell would be the turbo timer. I think no matter what you would still have to send it to Edge to get the Hot unlocked though.

GRI 08-28-2007 11:18 AM

Used is in my price range. so maybe I'll have to get a serial number break.

staarma 08-28-2007 11:26 AM

The other way to identify it from a used party would be to ask how many 18 gauge wires are going to the fuse box. There should be two, one red and one yellow. The older versions without the timer had only one red wire that powered the display. The new one has the additional yellow wire for the timer option. Also, they could see the option on the display configuration list as well as where before it never was an option.

I just called them and they said that on the side of the module it should state a software version and if it is version 16.2 or higher it has the turbo timer.

what does the turbo timer do?

Benjamin 08-28-2007 04:49 PM

the turbo timer lets the truck idle until the EGT's get to a preset level. it's real helpful if you tow real heavy as it'll allow the turbo to cool down and won't allow the oil to cook the turbo shaft and what not.....

I've been thinking about a timer. My biggest problem is when dropping the kids off at summer camp, I can't let it run in the parking lot. So I sit and sit and sit.

Usually, if I'm just running into the store for lottery tickets, smokes or coffee, I'll lock the truck and let it run.

I don't even think about it anymore. I just turn the key off, lock the doors and walk away. If it's below 350 degrees then it shuts off with the key and if it's above it idles on it's own until it hits 349. You can also set it for time by minutes if you like instead.

Whatever you decide for power is up to you but i personally like my commander alot. It monitors everything including oil temp and fuel pressure - added expense for the sender unit - which a buddy of mine actually has a Quadzilla 40 psi pressure sender unit for sale here on the site.
Anyway, i like the commander and can't comment on the edge other than to say they are WAY too dang pricey.

you might want to check on the edge....i dont think that you will be able to do the hot juice without the attitude monitor....in fact i dont think that you will even be able to use all 5 levels on the juice without it, so that is just one thing to consider...i dont even know that the juice would hook up to the commander

personally i've got the hot juice w/attitude on my truck and my girlfriend has the regular juice with attitude on hers and we both love them

GRI 08-30-2007 05:59 AM

well. To be a little different. I went with a quad race box. a guy on DTR sold me one for $225. I couldn't resist. I am also going to get the commander from a vendor on here so for $550 I'll have a $800 setup.

now there was some reasons why I made this decision.
1. I see the quadzilla guy on the forums and pretty active. so if there is a problem its taken care of if there is one.
2. from what I've read quadzillas customer service is great.
3. I call edge to see what the serial number break was for the turbo timer and it was given to me and told me that if it was pre turbo timer it could be installed on the module for $75.
Well i called back 4 hours later to get the date of manufacer for the break off and was told there wasn't one. So I asked the guy to double check and he said he was pretty sure that there wasnt a serial number break. I asked again and he looked it up and there was. he said he didnt have a date though. he then said thats its $50 if I want to get it installed.
I decided to call again hoping to get a seasoned technician and that guy knew what he was talking about for a minute and lost me when he said give me your email and I will send you the software update for your juice box. I told him that I was pretty sure I had to send it in he didn't want to believe me but checked anyway and then came back on and said that it was $60 to get the turbo timer installed.

Im sorry but there shouldn't be that many discrepancies on a customer service cal line

4. The last reason is that I haven't seen or heard of any complaints with quad setups.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 08-30-2007 07:36 PM

Quad has some of the best customer service in the business
