Cold air intake
 

Thinking about getting a after market air intake......whats the pros and cons. I heard some of them can suck in dirt and can cuase problems.

There are no cons. Are there? Most, if not all aftermarket filters, filter beter than the stock filter. Plus they allow much more airflow. Helps the truck breath better. It's better all around. Why someone would tell you they can suck in dirt seems retarded to me. I guess any filter could suck in dirt, but like I said, most aftermarket filters are better at filtering dirt. So the chances of an aftermarket filter sucking in dirt would probably be less of a chance than a stock filter sucking in dirt.

:argh:.....ever see how much dirt a K&N will let through into your turbo. Sorry but a kitchen sponge will filter better than a K&N on a forced induction engine. Unless you are over 400hp the stock box is fine and actualy better than most of the heat soaking after market ones. Put an Amsoil Ea Drop in filter and you have a good set-up. The best filters pull air from the outside and are sealed under the hood.

I actually have a k&n, got it as a gift, not my choice. But I will have to say it seems to be a good filter. Now I'd rather have the BHAF setup, but I got this as a gift, can't complain, and it works great.

Rub your finger on the inside of the turbo inlet and you'll see how much dirt it lets in. I ran a K&N for a while causeI always did on my gassers....I started reading about how much dirt they let through and I saw it for myself on my truck. I have no more black finger with my Ea filter on my set-up. I have a home made heat sheild and a cone style filter.

this is what I did I don't know if it is the best set up or even if it will work or not. I haven't had much road time to test it out. I am an hvac guy so sheetmetal is kinda second nature for me. I made a 5-4 reducer and attached to the lower left plastic trim piece where the fog light would go if it were a fancier truck. I then ran a 4 inch pipe to the stock box where i cut a 4" hole sealed it up and put a highflow filter in it. we will see if it works I would love some feedback.

I have a stage 1 afe cold air intake filter and i havn't had any problems.And you can wash and reuse them.Sure beats buying a new filter all the time.

:argh::argh: Here we go on K&N Again. Once again, are we talkin the drop in stock replacement K&N or the complete cone type replacement filter. I've had the cone type for 200,000 miles now and have yet to see all this dirt and oil I keep hearin about and this is a farm truck. The drop in, yes it's junk.

But at the same time I will also say that I have plans to go to an AMSOIL filter in the near future.
