Wanting the best setup for mpg and power if needed

hey all, I am amazed by the knowledge here and just wanted to ask you all how to set up my first cummins so that I have the best efficiency and am able to tap into the power potential of my truck. I do not tow over 7-8K and I only get that high when I am stockpiling wood for winter.

I am on a bit of a budget and have found some add-ons for respectable prices. I am looking for possible changes that could be found in the bone yards...maybe cannibalizing a rig? I am just curious what kind of homemade setups and salvage goodies you all have been able to create.

I have a 5" turbo back & edge juice with attitude upgrades in the near future.

just curious...let me know!
thanks

With more horsepower comes more upgrades. I would suggest a cold air intake which is cheaper modification. Also maybe a air intake manifold but that's preference. You won't really get anything off a junked stock truck that will upgrade yours. If you want more hp you will definitely need gauges that's the first thing. A new clutch or tranny may be in order to put down more hp if that's your plan. If your running the chip though you should definitely get some gauges first. Other than that things like injectors and turbos get pricy. Go with a good quality intake, exhaust, and gauges for starters. That will set you up to get good use out of the chip at lower levels. What are your power goals for the truck?

ditch the cat(if you can get away with it) and stock muffler for a good high flow unit. Then a good cold air, followed by gauges. Then a good programmer or under hood plug in unit like the edge you mentioned. Keep your tires aired up and use synthetic oils for the best mileage.:hi:
