Smarty Jr Vs Sr

Ok guys heres the deal. Just ordered guages and a S&B and next week will be ordering a smarty. Truck has stock auto (saving for built but may take 6 mo to year). I never tow or haul ever just drive 60+ miles a day to work and back. Drive very conservatively infact dont think i have ever had pedal to the floor much less rpms over 2700. I guess reason for smarty is some added fuel econemy, smoke, and maybe ill wanna put pedal to floor like once a month when a fast and furious car pulls up beside me lol... which one should i go with and why and if i continue my boring driving habbits my tranny should hold up right???

GRI 08-06-2009 07:38 AM

the Sr. If you plan on upgrading your tranny anyway, get the Sr. this way you wont be wishing you had more power.

diesel pap 08-06-2009 08:07 AM

sr i think cause you can always pick lower tune.

Im in this boat right now. I bought a Jr a year ago and then I burned up 2nd gear. Now I have all the trans upgrades and still a Jr. Wish I bought a Sr. If you decide to go with a Jr, let me know. I will sell you mine.

will your jr work on mine its the same year as yours but i thought they were not changeable from one truck to another ? if so how much do you want for it

btolenti 12-03-2009 12:43 AM

I would get the Sr. I tried multiple programmers - not the Jr. But now all I will run is a smarty sr. Look around, you should be able to find one used for sale for a good price.

They both will work on the 03-07 5.9L's. If you got it loaded on one truck, can't load another. But you can use it to read codes and adjust the speed on the same year Dodges.

If you buy a used one make sure the person returned their truck to stock! Then you can put it in another truck. SR is more adjustable the pod is amazing with what you can do!
as far as tranny life it will live if you drive calmly but it only takes one hard run "Flooring it" to burn your clutch pacs up. At A minimum put a good valve body in it to increase line pressure. then a TQ and you should be good for a little while. There are some other needed mods to stay alive call Dave at Goerend He will fill you in!

Yes make sure it not vin locked, it happens to the best of em

Yeah, the SR will eat your converters lunch if your running it on high high (170hp and tm on 4). As soon as I got the ATS on her, she took of like a rocket.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 12-06-2009 03:08 PM

Get the Sr

Superstroker10 12-08-2009 10:36 PM

so what is the difference in the SR and the JR?
more adjustablity
more power

why is the jr hard on the tranny and (sorry if im wrong) the SR isnt?

diesel pap 12-08-2009 10:56 PM

sr is harder on your tranny turned up. jr is about half power

Diesel Dawgs Performance 12-08-2009 10:56 PM

Superstroker10 12-10-2009 10:45 PM

ok so what are most of you smarty SR tuned guys putting down with stock transmission ?

thanks luke :tu:

dangerous1965 12-11-2009 08:28 PM

You don't want to use a stock tranny! Good for one pedal to the metal and your done!
At a minimum you'll need a TQ and VB that will hold for a long time if you control your foot as in NO power launches! I've been quite brutal with mine with just those mods and still no slip. Only issue I had was band adjustment " It better be right" These trannies with a few mods are quite sturdy but in stock form it's easy to smoke the clutches!

i have decided on a smarty jr if gri is still interested in selling his pm me or if anyone else is looking to sell a jr let me know

diesel 13 09-13-2010 09:37 PM

If you have the 48re trans, you shouldn't have any issues with the smarty jr. The 48re is good for around 800 lb torque. I've booted mine lots and still okay.

bobcat67 09-13-2010 10:35 PM

I have a fully billlet trans, and my new one is being built, and i'm barely pushing over 500 now to the wheels, nothing is bullet proof or will hold up to a set amount of hp/ft-lbs it is all in the luck of the draw

Yep. Anything mechanical can break. Especially when it's as complicated as our trans! I'm actually taking mine back in to get some adjustments done on it... *shrug* just the way it is! You have to pay to play and be okay with breaking things. That's just the way it is.:rocking:

Farmboy 2.0 09-14-2010 01:29 PM

My dad did 417 and 850 with a smarty sr on 5 and the sub settings were set on 3 with a stock tranny. And his truck did 391 and 760 on setting 3 with no setting cranked up. Not suggesting that thats ok

diesel 13 09-14-2010 09:52 PM

If your running high hp and torque, you need the right tranny upgrade and you'll have no problems. Look at the hp and torque the trucks have that sled pull and race. I think ats is one that handles over 1500l ft lbs and has an excellent warranty. I think most of us are not going to have that kind of power, so I imagine such a tranny would last a long time. Do it right the first time and you'll have far less problems or take you your foot off the pedal.

I have the jr and tore up my 48re so upgrade your tranny first then get the jr or sr. I tow and i like the jr but i will be upgrading to the sr someday

NadirPoint 09-16-2010 01:42 PM

I can't imagime why anyone would want more than the Jr. Just crazy, I guess. I have not put my Jr. higher than L2 (yet) and the truck scares me. :scare2:

It also scares small children and animals nearby with the Aero turbine muff. :w2:

mark402001 03-24-2014 07:13 PM

Smarty SR.

I been reading all yall have is the auto trans. What about the standard trans. I am in an 08 6.7 with 6 speed standard 4X4. I am thinking of going with the smarty sr and doing the stealth delete. My guess is I will need to update the clutch If I get on it to hard? I just use my truck for towing 5th wheels and travel trailers:humm:.

kawiguy1309 03-24-2014 10:44 PM

so6 pod is awesome have it on mine and love it
