what's the best programmer to get?

Hi gang, what would be the best programmer for my stock '06 cummins? The only thing I've done to it was put a Magnaflow muffler on it and put an open pipe from the turbo to the Magnaflow muffler. I would like to start with a programmer for some added power, mileage and maybe some smoke every now and then...Thanks guys

Smarty:U: But at the same time you should get some gauges to monitor things.

Ok, I'll check it out and the gauges. Thanks :U:

Next week my Hypertech Max Energy will find it's long, slow way to Alaska, and I'll let you know what it does. According to Hypertech's Dyno, the 6-speed gains +176 HP and +289 TQ from the '05-'07 Cummins with a 6-speed. A bit less with the automatic at +113 HP and +185 TQ. I've read that guys have put the level 3 (highest) program in and have achieved a 2-3 MPG increase. I'll have to see this for myself, though. I sold the idea to my wife on the grounds of MPG increase, as diesel is $3.39/gal up here in North Pole, Alaska. :argh: Best price for it was $319 at 4wheelonline.com, saved about $60.:U: Give me a few tanks of coal and a few days of driving and I'll let you know.:5:

smarty love my smarty

smarty's are bad ass but this new TST PowermaxCR PDA49 is supposed to get 200hp and 600ft lb tq at the rear wheels color display for pyro, boost, tach and rail pressure. That may be more than what you want but you can contact them out TST Products, Inc.

I have both the smarty and the TST( Not the new PDA one)
I like the TST for pulling the best. The TST is a little harder to install just have to follow the instructions.

The smarty has better low end grunt and simple to install and remove one conector and push a few buttons.

If I had to choose I would take the TST.

I've ran both the SR n JR Smarty. Both flashed the ECM from stock to power and back with no problems. Never had it completely erase the ECM either. If you want some or a lot of power, go with the JR.

But remember, they all raise rail pressure which shortens the life of the injectors.

hey btw busta we have the same truck, same color, year, same truck. :rocking:

North Pole Hooker 08-09-2009 04:06 PM

Well, my Hypertech Max Energy is now on. I installed the Stage I for about 5 hours, but didn't see a huge difference. Stage I is only +50HP, anyway. I was going to hold off on Stage II until after my 4" MBRP was installed, but.... what fun would THAT be. So, after 5 hours of Stage I the truck was set back to stock and then Stage II. (Not sure if setting it back to stock first was neccasary, but that's what I did.) Stage II was a wickedly HUGE difference at +113HP. I'm not going to Stage III until after my MBRP and pyro are installed, I promise. It's just so hard not to put the cool stuff in as soon as you get it, that's all! After the MBRP and pyro, I'm going to install the +176HP Stage III, but will not be towing with it when the time presents itself. After running it really hard through the 6-speed, mashing it and seeing what it would do (to include embarassing a 'Vet on the way home), I have yet to see an increase in black smoke. Which, for me, is perfect as I'm not a big fan of having unburned fuel roll out of my exhaust, anyway! For the '05-'07 Cummins, the Hypertech seems to have the best numbers I've seen. Persoannly, I can concur on the power increase. Why are there no dyno's within the Alaskan Interior?
