propane injection (after search)

Found this thread in my propane search. Mostly pros few cons. Something I've been thinking about but kits are NOT cheap, looked on the Bullydog site for info. Looking for mileage and cleaner burn, keeps oil cleaner? less soot.
General ratio 1 propane to 4 diesel so an 8.5 gal tank should do me at 35 gal fuel. When I win the lottery....
Also how would it work with my Smarty Jr.?? any thoughts? new info?

well you can always make your own :w2: they're really easy
I was thinking about it too but i talked to a few guys at work and they said that propain will kill your engine if you run it long enough, it runs ALOT hotter then diesel and you pistons will take a beating. But other then that it helps with mileage and cleaner burn, idk bout the oil or the smarty Jr. my trucks a 12v all mechinical :choochoo:
you even have the right article, it shows you how to "DIY" saves a lot of money.. short term :argh:

Rather then propane why not go with water/meth. If you run straight water its free too. You can gain the same power from each and the water is easier to install, is simpler and easier to maintain. just my .02

Thanks guys. Water/meth kit is cheaper too.
I think the Bully Dog Propane kit would be reliable, like I said I wouldn't 'roll my own'.
But no money just thinking..

Dear Friends - I made my own propane kit and it works extremely well. It seems that the people that have trouble with propane use it to increase their power when they are already stressing things near the max. In other words, they are dumping too much in which leads to detonation and henceforth engine death. All things diesel when used responsibly can be very effective. Related subj - I have excellent results with mine for mileage and power and it does not skyrocket my egt's. But also for additional mileage and lowering my egt's even further I am going to make my own methanol/water injection. It will bring more oxygen (yes!) to the party and some more fuel (methanol) and with the propane helping out too with the fuel should help my diesel mileage. Diesel is the expensive power adder and that is what we are trying to reduce its use while running. It will be fun and I will let you know. Also much less smoke with propane adder.

Dear Friends- I re-read the original post and you mentioned 1 to 4 propane to diesel - Watch OUT! That is in my experience way too much propane. It will probably ping from detonation and then you will have a "catastrophic failure!" With my kit that is home made - I get between 700 and 1000 miles per 20 lb (yes pound!) tank. I know I don't run wide open very often - especially when the throttle restrictor wife is along! - but I am running two selenoids for and aft which conserves the propane in the regulator until the next time that propane is requested - which conserves the propane - much more efficient - and quicker throttle response with the propane under load. In my opinion - propane is an excellant mileage increaser that as an aside increases power also. But if I were to build a diesel for ALL OUT POWER I would not suggest propane to be used in large amounts for long times as that would put an engine that might be being ran on the edge over the top and then you have expensive repairs. I get a grin almost everytime I run mine. Yes it makes approx 100 more horses and works great while towing - and I tow in overdrive convertor locked with cruise on. My egt's are manageable usually triple digits and I pass dura's and strokes with lesser trailers all whilst grinning ear to ear. Last but not least - methanol water injection increases power and reduces (yes!!) egt's. For all out I would choose methanol/water over propane for power and safety. I will build my own kit for that too and run both methanol/water (ideal ratio 65/35) AND propane kit on side also. This is so much fun!
