Cutting the Stock Muffler off
I don't know much about aftermarket exhaust, so my question is...Since my '06 already has a stock 4" exhaust system, could I just cut off the stock muffler and add a free flowing aftermarket muffler into the stock system to save money? If possible, this would only cost me $200ish compared to a full system at $400ish.

you could but the purpose of an aftermarket system is to remove all the sharp bends and turns that restrict flow so just getting a muffler would help a little but not much. now ask somone else who knoes more about cummins and they will give you a definante answer

I could be completely wrong, but I thought my '06 already has a 4" mandral bend exhaust. Wouldn't that eliminate the unnecessary bends?

hey your 4 inch factory exhaust is ok but you might want to look at aftermarket ones there gettin cheap on ebay an what not. the factory exhaust still is more restrictive than any aftermarket on will be all depends on your budget and needs

I have stock 4" exhaust with a muffler delete from Geno's and it sounds great and flows great. The factory 4" exhaust is plenty smooth for up to and over 500 HP, not sure whene you would need to step it up.

id just do that cuz the truck im gettin has the muffler delete, its an 04 and loud as heck. gotta have a stock 4 in system too, its a big pipe... my mom thinks its too loud tho so i may go aero turbine there pretty cheap $130

Well I just broke down and bought a MBRP cat back 4" T409. I will install it next weekend. Wish me luck.
