Turbo experts, can I keep my wastegate clamped off???

I have an HTB2 62/12 turbo on my 07 Ram. I have not been able to get more than 35 psi out of this thing no matter what combo of boxes I have on the truck. It was suggested for me to clamp off the hose to the WG and see if I get more boost. Well, I did it and I hit almost 40psi today with my Predator/Puck combo on the moderate setting. Before clamping it off I got a max of 31-32psi. Now, I made a hard pull but if I would have stayed in it longer I think the boost would have risen more but I doubt it would have gone above 45psi. I know that 40-45psi won't hurt the turbo but would there be any drawbacks to keeping the hose clamped off????
I do have a Quad boost fooler on the truck BTW....

I'm a little out of my league here on a newer truck and aftermarket turbo so don't take this to heart. Just throwin out a thought here. I think I would be more worried about a head gasket at 40psi then I would be of hurtin the turbo. This is where you get into the new studs or fire ringed head.

It might not hurt the turbo but will your head gasket take that much?

The head gasket should be fine until around 55psi or so... I was making 45psi with this turbo when it was on my 03 w/ TST/MP8 stack. 40-45psi should be no problem......

Head Gasket

My buddys went in his 02' with around 40#s of boost. Well at least if it did go it should'nt too bad to change! I would'nt even want to get into mine!lol

DangerousDuramax 05-20-2007 01:30 PM

Yep, the DMax turbo is a :edit: to change.

Head Gaskets

I was talking about changing the head gaskets but I dont want to get into the turbo either! It's hard enough just to find it let alone change it!

Dodgezilla 05-20-2007 03:14 PM

Well, I don't even want to start talking about head gaskets so just stop it!!:w:

As I said, the Cummins is good for around 50-55psi before you need to start worrying about it.

DangerousDuramax 05-20-2007 03:41 PM

No need to get huffy. Everyone knows that the CTD is good for 50psi as well as the head gaskets are the weak link. :sen:
