3rd Gen Tech Smarty Download Procedure

The following instructions are for Downloading software for the SO2, SO3, SO4, SO6A, SO6P, S67A, S67ME, SJ6 off the MADS Electronics web page.

S02.. = Smarty model S-03
S03.. = Smarty model S-03
S04... = Smarty model S-04
S06A.. = Smarty model S-06
S06P... = Smarty model S-06 PoD
S67A.. = Smarty model S-67
S67ME.. = Smarty model S-67ME
SJ6.. = Smarty JR

These instructions were written with the S-04 and S-06 models in mind. However, the procedure for obtaining software for the other models is similar.
My hope is these instructions will be helpful in getting the files necessary to update your Smarty with the software available on the MADS website, using your computer.

Before you get started, it may be helpful if you create a folder on your computer and name it "Smarty".
Create a subfolder in the Smarty folder named Docs.

You may create additional subfolders in the Smarty folder for each of the software files you download later, when you actually download them.
The date on the folder you create for the Smarty files themselves should coincide with the file you chose to download.
I DO NOT recommend changing the names of any of the files you download.

Visit http://www.madselectronics.com/index.html

At the top menu bar, Click on the "Downloads" tab.

Select the product you own and want to download for by checking the serial number on the white label attached to your Smarty, then clicking on the picture of your model.
If you already have the current version of Adobe Reader the next step can be skipped.

Toward the bottom of the page, is a link to get Adobe Reader, if you don't have it.

Once you have Adobe Reader, I strongly recommend saving a copy of all the files in the "Documentation" area, of the MADS Download page for your model.

Starting with the top file in the “Documentation” area, Click on the file, a new window will pop up with the document displayed.

In the upper left corner click on "file" scroll down to "Save As" and click. It will open a Dialog box. Leave the file name as is, but at the top of the dialog box, in the "save in:” area, you can navigate to your "Docs" subfolder you created in your Smarty folder earlier. Repeat these steps for each of the documents present in the "Documents" area of the Smarty download page.

Next, you may need to make a selection based on your truck and your particular model of Smarty, to either download the REVO software or REVO-TNT software, or both. I recommend getting both if available for your model of Smarty.

Write Down the date associated with the file you are about to download. It will be used to create a subfolder to save your file to.

If you have the S03, you will need to decide which of the 5 currently available programs you want, or just download all of them now, and decide later. Also, if you are downloading for the SO3, I would write down the entire file name you are about to download, and use that for your folder name later in these instructions.

Click on the File name of the software. You should now be looking at a “Disclaimer of Liability” page.
If you are downloading for S03, or SJ6, you will not have a “Disclaimer of Liability” page. In your case, a file download box will just pop up.

NOTE: If you are downloading the TNT file, there is a link for documentation for the TNT software on the Disclaimer of Liability page. Click on it, and save it in the Docs folder as before.
Read the Disclaimer, and if you agree, click the “I agree with the terms” link.

A File Download box should pop up. Click on Save.
A "Save As" window will open. This gives you the opportunity to save it to a specific folder on your computer, or create a new folder to save it in. Again, leave the file name alone. In the “Save In:” area, navigate to the Smarty Folder.

Select “Create New Folder” name the folder with Either REVO_xx-xx-xx or REVO_TNT_xx-xx-xx Depending on which file you are downloading currently, and Where xx-xx-xx is the date of the file. At the time of this article, the current software for S06 is Nov 14, 2008. So, 11-14-08 would be the date for the folder.

For the S03 downloads, this is where you use the name of the file for the subfolder.

The next step is to download the files in the "Tools" section of the Smarty webpage.
There are 2 files you will need. One is a USB file, the other is a USB Driver.

First, let's get the USB file.
The top 2 files in the “Tools” section are the actual Smarty downloader. Make a choice on which one you need based on your operating system. This is the program that is used to interface your computer to the Smarty and load the smarty with the software you select. These files have the name SmartyUSB.exe and SmartyUSBL.exe

Once you determine which Smarty USB downloader file is correct for your operating system, click on it. This will open a "Save As" window. Save it in the Smarty Folder.

The 3rd and 4th files are Zipped files that contain the USB drivers. Make a selection based on your operating system. These files (Once Unzipped) are used to interface your operating system (Windows XP, for example) to the Smarty Downloader. These files have the name CDM 2.0.16.zip or D30104.zip
Once you determine which USB driver file is correct for your operating system.
Click on it. This will open a "Save As" window. Save it to the Smarty Folder also.

The last thing you need to download is a copy of the 7Zip software. Clicking on the 7Zip Icon at the bottom of the Smarty Software Download page, will link you to the 7Zip webpage. Download the 7Zip program from that page by clicking on the "Download" link for the .exe file.

Once this file is on your computer, you will need to double click it to launch the 7zip installation program. This will install 7Zip to your computer.

Before you can use your USB driver file, (Either CDM 2.04.16.zip, or D30104.zip depending on your Operating System), you will need to unzip them. I used WinZip for this.

You also need to unzip the downloaded software upgrade file. This is the REVO, REVO-TNT, etc. file. It will have the file extension .7z
Use the 7Zip program for this.

An USB printer cable is used to connect the Smarty to your computer. You may already have a cable that will work if you have a printer attached to your computer.

You should now have everything you need to set your computer up for use with your Smarty, and download a new software file to it.

The next steps will be to install the USB driver to your computer. Follow the instructions you saved to your "Docs" subfolder called "SmartyUSBdriverinstallationguide.pdf"

Once the initial download and setup procedure is completed, future updates to your Smarty from your computer becomes EXTREMELY simplified.

If you run into trouble doing the initial download and setup procedure, Ask for help here!
There is a small army of Smarty users that are willing to help!

wyoranch 03-02-2009 08:42 AM

Question, im planning on getting a smarty. I thought you could just plug it in your truck and go. At what point do you need to get online to make changes to it? Or to update it

wildcat 03-02-2009 05:17 PM

Well, you plug it in to your OBD2 port under your dash, Download the catcher software you want to your truck, and then unplug it.

As far as when do you get on line to update it, let's say your Smarty comes with the REVO software. You make some signifigant changes to your truck, and now you want to run the TNT software. That is one example of when you would need to get online and download software.

Another would be if MADS came out with an Improved Revision of software that affects your truck or setup.

Hope this helped.

elephantrider 04-03-2009 08:05 PM

when i get to the step where you enter the file path
(c:\d2xx drivers ) file wizard says it cant find anything.

am i overlooking something ?

wildcat 04-04-2009 08:43 AM

Maybe, Jason.

(c:\d2xx drivers ) is just an example of where you put the drivers.

Another example is if you put them in C:\Documents and Settings\elephantrider\My Documents\DODGE\SMARTY , then that's what you would type.

Also, the USB driver file you downloaded (Either CDM 2.04.16.zip, or D30104.zip) needs to be Unzipped before your computer can find them and you can use them.

Did you unzip the file?

Did this help?

elephantrider 04-04-2009 07:01 PM

okay i got it thanks to wildkitty.
bill really appreciate the call buddy :U:

looks like i was just pointing the driver installer
to a sub folder instead of the cdm folder. once
i pointed it correctly to the parent folder i was
up and running. putting the tnt on there now.

its easy after you do it, so if someone runs into
this same issue give wildcat or myself a call...

thanks again bud ! :c:

Blackout_CTD 06-15-2010 10:17 PM

so where do you get the cable to hook the smarty to the computer? and is there any good downloads for the s03?

wildcat 06-16-2010 08:22 AM

The cable that Smarty uses to connect to the computer is a standard USB printer cable.. you might already have one... You can get the cable anywhere they sell computers, printers, etc.

As for the D/L for the s03, IDK, I have an s06, so i'll let someone else answer that.

LOL! 500 hp on a stock turbo @ 48 PSI of boost... I'd have to say your "Wanting more for as little money as possible" is about to get REALLY expensive.... If it hasn't already...

txcoalroller69 09-11-2010 05:37 PM

Here are some videos that can help folks like me who do better when actually seeing it being done. :tu:

Dodge Smarty Tuner Upgrade - How to Update Smarty Programmer

pbdrew15 03-06-2012 08:47 PM

Those are the same videos I watched, and unfortunately what it shows in the video is not exactly how it is working on my own computer when I follow the video. There are differences. My computer isn't executing it the same way and leaves me wondering what to do...an over the phone play by play support is what I need lol

H.R.D 03-06-2012 09:49 PM

They worked for me and I have never done it prior to 2 weeks ago. It takes some computer knowledge but not tons. :tu:

What is not working for you? Maybe I can help.

pbdrew15 03-08-2012 06:06 PM

Alright here is where I stand....

1. I create a new folder,

2. I open the Mads webite, go to downloads and select what I have...S06P for my 04.5

3. First difference...when I download the 7zip firstly it asks me if i want to open or save, I click save, then it open an internet download box and saves it in the box. I double click the download and it gives me a pop up saying its an executable file, do i want to open, I click yes, then a security pop up opens and asks if I'm sure I want to run the file? only option to click is RUN or CANCEL, so I click run. Then asks me the location to save to and I select the new smarty folder in the C: drive, it installs and I click finish t close it.

4. Another difference...i click to download the smartUSB.exe, same as above happens, it downloads into the download pop up box, i double click to open it, a pop up says its an executable file do I want to open it, I click yes. now a second security box opens asking if I'm sure I want to run this file, again only option is RUN or CANCEL so i click run and it opens up a smarty box that has a blank bar and a button to click that says run. It never asks to actually save the program! It just opens it up! How can I save this into the Smarty folder like the video shows?

5. Install 7zip...when I go to drive C:, open up the smart folder all I see is a folder that says 7-zip, if I open it up there is no option for a folder that shares the same name as what the video shows. It just has all sorts of other folders inside the 7-zip folder. So does that mean its already all installed?

6. Installing the driver completely makes no sense. when I click to download from the website the driver is named CDM20814_WHQL_Certified.zip, but when it open up after the download to the Unzip portion there are multiple folders and other files but none have the same name as the driver name on the Mads website...so what do I need to unzip into the Smarty folder I created?

7. That's as far as Ive gotten considering the differences and the fact that I haven't been able to save the smartyUSB.exe downloader portion or know what do do about unzipping the right driver....So please let me know what I need to try! I appreciate any help...if its easier shoot me a call or text at 678-480-5541.I appreciate it.

H.R.D 03-08-2012 06:08 PM

Which web browser are you using? If using Google Chrome click on the wrench in the upper right hand corner of the toolbar. Go to OPTIONS then click on UNDER THE HOOD. Go to the heading that says downloads click the box that says " Ask where to save file before downloading" this will prompt you to select a destination folder before any downloads are started.

If on FireFox it should also have a similar option. I however don't use FF at all.

If I get some time 2morrow I can probably call you and see if we can get it figured out.
