ATS Co-Pilot

I just baught a ATS stage 6 tranny. And was wondering do I need to get the co-pilot? I never tow anything. I'm not real sure on what it even does. I've read on the old site about some of u guys wiring up your own torque convertor lock up switch. Is that pretty much the same thing?

I would guess you wouldn't NEED it, but may not hurt. Maybe someone else will chime in here.

According to a few of my customers a lock up device like the co pilot can help cut times on the track slightly. I have not yet used one my self. However, 2 of my customers have been having issues with their Copilots. I would say go ahead and get it, but just be aware that you may possibly go through a few.

I think all they do is make the converter lock up totally controllable. They say if you run the 1/4 mile with your convertor locked it can take off up to 2 tenths of a sec on your run. I made my own lock up switch but i have to turn it on and off. The copilot does all the work for you. It will also bring your tranny temps way down if the converter is locked from what I hear.

Not sure on a Cummins but it's just about mandatory on a DMax. The Co-Pilot has knocked as much as .5 second off quarter mile times in high horsepower applications. For the Allison it has been a very good tool that helps maximize the beefier built tranny clutches. Increasing line pressure on a built tranny is nothing but good. Like I said, not sure what it does on the Dodge tranny but it has proven to help stock to wild Allison's when properly set up.

i have a tc lock-up switch and it took .5 seconds off my 1/4 mile time...and definately noticed reduced tranny temps (between 20-30 degrees) - especially when drag racing. there is a web site that tells u how to do it and it takes about 30 minutes max. http://www.tstproducts.com/Torque%20...p%20Switch.pdf there is the pdf on the wiring and instructions.
