All it is a rail pressure sensor fooler. It just remaps the sensor voltage so the ECU commands more pressure. Basically this module reports a lower than commanded rail pressure from the sensor to the ECU so the ECU gets "tricked" into increasing the rail pressure. See, the ECU sends a command for rail pressure to the FCA on the CP3. Then the ECU compares this to the actual rail pressure (commanded versus actual) from the rail pressure sensor on the top of the motor where this module plugs into. If the delta is not within spec but not too far off than the ECU will command more pressure so more rail pressure is produced, without the knowledge of too much pressure to the ECU because the reported pressure is still within spec to the ECU because of the bogus number the new module reports it at. The higher rail pressure makes more power.

I contacted the manufacture of these chips to come and add insight , pointed him to the other thread about them , He basically said that the people who replied to the thread starter were idiots and that is not what these do , I asked him to sign up and explain what exactly they are and he said he didnt do forums

Those idiots have it all wrong, it’s amazing to see how many know it alls exist on the forums. NONE of them have tried it but they all know what it does.

i contacted you hoping you could come and shine some light on the subject .

We tend not to get involved in forums, because the rules are generally set in opposition to the companies interests. It is safe enough to say though that they are wrong. I in fact, stopped posting on forums over a year ago, due to what I call “Forum Goons” and “Forum Gods”. I personally hope a few of the forums go under, like dieseltruckresource.com

He's a very bitter man. I described exactly what his $8, weekend project does. He doesn't have to like it but it's the truth. It only connects to the rail pressure sensor for crying out loud, what else could it do?????? Magic????:tttt::argh:

I bet his customer support is great too...:U:

Well Lets Calm down here and maybe we can get him involved and share some information about his products :U:

That would be ideal, because the more good products that are out there, the better everyone is. However, it sounds like Larry and Jack soured him on Forums....or it could be all the "holier than thou" diesel owners on there that have nothing good to say.

DB Admin 08-21-2008 01:44 PM

He deserves a fair shot at informing us about his products :U:

cheapassdieselchips 08-21-2008 02:01 PM

I am glad so many of you seem to know not only how our product works, but also seem to know our level of service that we provide. I generally do not post on these for reasons well mentioned.

See it comes down to I have a business to run so I can not always be wiping heineys on the forums. ON the other hand you have people that sit at their desktop PC all day at work bored to death and have nothing better to do than thrash a perfectly legitimate business for no other reason than they feel like it.

This is why I stopped posting on forums over a year ago.

FOr your information:

our product is not a weekend project, i can show you some of our competitors that do look like weekend projects.

it is not an IAT mod/map mod

we have very reasonable customer service.

And if the thread turns into a "forum goon" chest thumping session, I'm off...

Now,... what legitimate questions do you have about the product that we can answer?

Marine 08-21-2008 02:03 PM

Cheapassdiesels,

I am glad you posted on here. :U:
I don't have any questions, but some info on your product I'm sure would be a great place to start.
Thanks!

Q. Are your Chips Made in the USA ?

Q. Is there A Department Working on New Versions of old Chips and New Models ?

Q. These are non Traceable to Dealers for warentee work ?

DB Admin 08-21-2008 02:22 PM

Q. How does it work? , What Does It Do?

staarma 08-21-2008 05:52 PM

Correction, I never said anything about an IAT or a MAP mod. It is a rail pressure mod by using the sensor signal back to the ECU. Read my post again. I meant no offense to you about being a weekend project. Some weekend projects can look good. I have never seen your module before so I never commented on the design or quality. I was simply stating the technology used. It is really no different than an EZ in increasing rail pressure other than the EZ also does MAP so it can do lookup tables versus boost and rail pressure but that's also why it costs quite a bit more. Let's be real, if you have more than $8 in that circuit board you show on your web site then you are shopping the wrong CM. That being said, I could care less if you have $8 in it or not. I would be willing to pay for the technology and ease of plug and play much like anyone else. Try not to be so defensive and just stick to why your product works for $99. Don't drag others down or the forums. No need to defend your product just talk about it's benefits and stay true to that and answer peoples questions thats all. When you take a stance like you did you will attract negative attention. You can attract a lot more bees with honey rather than a bucket of pooh.

Good luck, I hope you sell a ton. That's what makes America great, free enterprise.:U:

Well put , Post with Respect and you will get it in return :U:

t.k._04 08-21-2008 08:48 PM

well i had it sittin here figured i'd try it out. put it in by it-self ran it a little to see if it would throw any codes, nothing, so i put my smarty jr back in with it it has good throtle response it's real touchy which the smarty really isnt by itself. I dogged it a good little bit and no problems only thing is in the highest setting i believe it's 5 once you let off the pedal it has a funny idle feeling to it.But only in 5. Other than that it seems like a pretty descent chip..I mean it's not the edge ez but for the money it seems alright.

2500HeavyDuty 08-21-2008 11:23 PM

them chips remind of the the dsp5 switch for EFI

t.k._04 08-21-2008 11:54 PM

never heard of that but having that chip here was only a matter of time until i hadda see what it was about for myself almost like putting candy infront of a 5 yr old and tellin him not to eat it lol. but it does seem to have a pretty good little power gain for some thing that is under $100. Oh anyone know where i can find a van aken smart box been browsing tons of sites and havnt found one yet??

Put a request out in the price quote section to our vendors. A lot a vendors got stuck with these boxes when VA announced they were goin out a business. Nobody wanted em any more after that.

CheapDieselChips

It always amazes us the number of people that tell us how much our circuit boards cost or should cost and what goes on them without even knowing what may be in them or what level of intelligence they have. And then hence, why I am hesitant to engage in these discussions because it's just not worth it,

Just my opinion, but bad name for a company!!

C/PRD/ 09-08-2008 02:54 PM

I bought one nearly a year ago. For under a bill it's great. But on setting 5 it does act a little odd when towing on my 06. I ran it for 10k on my 03 and had zero issues set to 5. I just leave it on 4 and run it. I have had no engine codes what so ever. It's a nice piece for the minimal mod guy.

Id alos be interested in knowing what exactly these chips do ... I mean to they interrupt the signal from the sensors or what?

Thanks for giving us a little insight on your cheap diesel chips!

Anyone know more about cheapdieselchips.com?

Hopefully someone is still looking at this old forum. I recently bought a couple items from cheapdieselchips.com. Their "power mod", exhaust brake (uses the factory cold start butterfly), and what they called a Timing Advance Module (TAM). I installed the brake and the system that plugs into the fuel rail. Got an inital email with some instructions on the first two systems, but not on the TAM. They advertise that the "TAM" can stack with the power mod, but it came with no instructions and the plugs don't seem to match up to anything on my 99' 7.3L. Been trying to reach the guy by email for a week, but no answer or anyway to get a hold of him. Only lists an email on the website as well. Both things I installed work pretty well; i.e. more power and about a 2mpg increase so far. Any one know how to reach him or install the "TAM"?

muddinfreak89 03-31-2011 04:16 PM

I'm also curious:pca1:

Short Hauler 04-01-2011 03:14 PM

I sent the guy kind of a heated message this morning, so I may never get a response. I may just end up out the money for the module.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

The guy replied to me finally and took care of my issues. Turns out he was out sick for a week. I feel bad cause I made a few references about his mascot. Got the Timing advance module installed and will see how performance improves. been getting 1.5-2mpg gains from the power module from them. Just been leaving it on setting 3 while towing pretty heavy loads. I've put on about 900 miles with the power mod. also built my own cold air intake, works great and only costs the prices of the K&N filter. $42

Short Hauler 04-04-2011 12:23 PM

after the Timing advance module, power mod. and intake I have ended up at 17.5mpg from 12 mpg, still need to go to a 4 or 5inch exhaust and probably will get better.
