06 5.9 no start

My dad has a 2006 dodge 1ton with a 5.9 diesel. it wouldn't start so he used ether - yes it was a bad idea, but it got him home. Long story short it went to the shop and had a rebuilt longblock installed along with new injectors. It is still not starting. Tech is now saying to needs a pcm. It does crank, tries to start but nothing. It has new batteries and a new crank sensor. Is there any weird issues that I might be able to pass on the the techs? I worry about my father being taken advantage of, but I have never had any trouble with the shop that is working on it...just really worried about the bill getting much bigger. Thanks, Dee

Your father has already been taken advantage of. ether is not near as bad as people make it out to be.
sounds like the rail pressure is not getting to a high enough pressure while cranking for the solenoids to fire the injectors, i see this alot on perking I6 Genset engines, usually an injector of a high pressure fuel system issue. have the tech get a high pressure fuel reading with a scan tool and tell him to look up why it is to low (if it is, it should be) or have him find out why the injectors are not firing.
TELL HIM to start being a technician not a parts changer

The technician is supposed to let me know something before the holiday break, but he is going to check the rail pressure and see if it is the injector pump not having enough pressure before we go any farther. I have talked to a tech that is somewhat related and he said the same as you that he needs to diagnose the problem and not throw parts at it. Hopefully we can pin point the real problem soon. Is the pump what they call a cp3? That is what they are supposed to be checking next. Thanks. Dee

The pump is a cp3 pump yes.
send over what they find before you allow them to throw more parts at it, i would refuse to pay for what they did that did not fix the issue

Hmm "NO START" I know put a new engine in it! Still no start try another engine!

It is sad that happened :ouch:

Did you check for any codes ?
Turn key on and off 3 times, should show.
Pull fuel line off cp3 pump to see if you have fuel that far.

crank but no fire.. almost always points me towards fuel next.

sounds like a cp3 pump if you ask me.

i know this may sound stupid.. but ive seen shops over look the stupidest crap.. are they 100% positive theres fuel in the truck and its not reading it has fuel because the fuel gauge isnt working properly?

also.. did they try a new fuel filter. and make sure the fuel filter housing / ball has fuel?

Definitely a fuel issue. Diesels are pretty simple...if it turns over but wont start, chances are it's not getting any go juice. start at the tank, and work your way forward. Tank and pump, fuel lines to and from filter, filter, fuel control actuator, cp3, fuel rail and individual injector lines.
