Gutting The Cat?

I do not want to start any trouble but has anybody just cut the cat where it is welded together and rodded the honeycomb stuff out and welded it back on? Is it worth the time and trouble? Just been thinking about it. If i am not supposed to talk about defeating emmissions equip. then somebody please let me know. Thanks

No talk away buddy...

I have never gutted one, but I have removed mine from every truck that came with one...Big difference for us in Canada is that we have no testing YET...

I honestly dont know anybody that keeps theirs up here...A lot of us work in the oilfield and lease our trucks as we go through them pretty fast and we even return the leases with no cats...

there are also some 'imitation' cats on the market...you remove your stock unit and replace it with one of these and it 'appears' that you have not touched anything. Seems like a whole lot less work than trying to 'gut' one...

I saw a guy that removed the muff behind the cat and then took a bar to the honey combs and beat em al out of there then put the muff back on..................he started it up and blew chunks from hell to breakfast out the tail pipe :choochoo:

Well the reason i had the idea is because where the cat reduces down to 4 inch its weled on. i seen a guy cut it off and weld it back on to 5 inch pipe for a stacks setup. just thought i might be lower cost than a imitaion cat. In kansas i know of no testing yet either. Thanks im glad i can talk freely :)

EZ...if you dont have any testing, why not just remove it and replace it with a piece of 4"???

I don't know just thought i would be alittle sneaky!hehehe I still have warranty and my dealer is cool about alot of stuff but i want to have all my bases covered. I already took the muffler off so i might just cut it where we welded in my delete pipe we made and do like whit said and rod it out from there. thanks for the help.

Nation wide emissions testing is on the way. They are already doing it in most major cities. Also, inspection laws state that if a vehicle was equipped with a CAT and muffler from the factory then it must have them on the vehicle at all times. In Texas they do a visual inspection to make sure that you have them. If not, you fail inspection and they wont give you a sticker.
