Fuel pick up tube clogged????

I have a 2001 3/4 2wd with new IP and new OEM LP. I have a fuel light , not a guage. My truck runs out of fuel at approx 1/4 tank showing on the fuel guage. I have heard about these vp-44 trucks are prone to sending unti/pick up troubles. What should I do? I run a smarty and a boost fooler...thats it. Anything above 1500 RPM my lights flickers and ultimately shines bright with harder fueling.I obviously need tpo replave the in-tank unit but do not want to go back with the restrictive oem unit. Is there an aftermaerket company that sales a 1/2" fuel line kit or is OEM the only option??? Help needed. Has anybody else had this problem?? I think I have some sort of restriction in the pick up or fuel line....

You don't need 1/2" line, 3/8" would be more then enough for you set up. The best thing to do is upgrade the lift pump. Stock units just don't cut it. Vulcan offers line kits, upgraded fuel baskets, and many other fuel system upgrades:

Thanks for the info. Iam going to buy the FRRP Raptor replacement pump and a Vulcan DrawStraw1. Has anybody used the DS1 and I assume the straw installs in the OEM intank module? A whole liberty in tank sending unit/module is $300 plus shipping...whereas the draw straw is $55... I have heard about guys dropping the tank and pulling the module to find lots of slime, dirt and other blockages on the pick uop screen. I guess the real question is can I get away with the Draw Straw 1 only OR should I get the entire Liberty module which includes their draw straw?? Thanks in advance!

I've had the DS1 for a while now with no problems, just take your time and make sure you get the straw all the way down to the bottom as close as you can.

Gruffy...Thanks for the info. Did you just put the DS1 into the OEM in-tank module or did you have to buy the liberty module? It sounds like we have (had) the same problem. This morning I was driving pre dawn and i noticed my FP light flickering at idle. Theres no telling how clogged and frayed my pick up tube is..Thanks again

Do you have the in tank pump or the block mounted? I just got done fixing the same exact issue on my 99 with the in tank. Same situation, would flicker the light. I put in a raptor 100 (same pump as the FRRP but gets it down on the frame rail and away from the engine heat and comes with the big lines) and a draw straw V. Rather than re-type the whole saga, here's how it all went for me. I would 150% recommend this setup if you have the in-tank pump. Feel free to PM me with any questions at all!

I just installed the straw in the factory module after trimming a little out of it.If you follow the instructions in the kit you'll be just fine.
