Default 02 6 speed into 99 5 speed

Hey guy I had a few questions. About tranny swap
A friend rolled his 02. And was going to sell it to me for 3000
Still runs. I was just going to use for parts and rebuild the motor for future street drag in my 99. But for now can I use his drive shafts and tranny in my truck ?
I do have a valair clutch and input shaft upgrade on my 5 speed currently.
Any one know if that would match up, and if I could swap my input shaft upgrade too the 6 speed?

you will not have to swap the input becuase the 6 speed comes with a 1 3/8 " input shaft from the factory. and im pretty sure your clutch will work with the 6 speed

why? I would be much happier with the 5 speed. The 6 speed is nice to have more gears but not such a nice repair cost.

Yes I've really been looking at threads and people's comments. It dosnt tow well in 6th with the hp I'm running ether. 6th so people say plus the 5 speed has a better od for highway which i do 4000 a month fromhometo work and backI just figured newer better. Lol. Still learning about the cummins equipment.
So my next questions would be. What can I do to get a stronger tranny. Upgrades different trans? I've also read a out blowing 3rd gear up on the 5 speed!
Any suggestions or critasism would be greatly appreciated thanx for the info

I would personally look no further.I would do a full rebuild with heat treated gears and shafts,5th gear fix, dual disc clutch and not abuse the crap out of it.What are your plans with the truck?

nvrm don't bother dragging these manuals. It can't be done with any sort of longevity. If you're going full drag truck go goerend built auto. Not trying to be a dick but these manuals weren't meant for that kind of driving and the low end torque these engines put out.

Not a dick at all. Right now I tow a rock crawler around and 5th wheel. But it's almost time for new. Then I'd like to drag. I thought I'd be mudding with it but boy diesel drag look fun. And a whole new addiction has taken over. Appreciate the advise

Glad i didn't come across as a dick.I shouldn't say it can't be done but you better have super deep pockets to do it.The thought has crossed my mind of doing a manual drag truck but its way to deep for my pockets right now.
