OK GUYS! CHECK THIS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, Ive posted a tread about my truck having some heavy smoke blow-by out of my crankcase tube about 3 weeks ago or so. I had a few guys here tell me that my rings are probably shot, but when I tell people the truck only has 177,xxx on it. They can't believe it needs rebuilding.:td:
So I took it to a local cummins dealer here in town. They only deal in cummins!:": When i told them that I had blow-by out of the crankcase tube. I physically had to show the guy the tube. Well, 3 days later and them only working on the truck for an hour. The only thing they did was they said put the truck on a dyno and did a pull to measure blow-by under load. They said it had more than they would like to see, so I needed a new motor($12,900). Oh, while they had it on the dyno, they blew of the boot from the turbo to the intercooler and said it was all ready off. Which I no that was a lie!!!:fu:
So not being happy with that conclusion. I got a number of a diesel tech and had him do a compression check and a internal balance check. They both came back GOOD. He said that the smoke was normal and he had a friend with a 24v cummins with only 60,000 on it and smoked more than mine.

So with all this said, still doesnt explain the smoke out of the crankcase tube!:argh: Does anyone have this same problem or know someone who has? I keep hearing people say something about the ventilation system needs to be checked. what should I look for???? Also, I had someone tell me it could be the injectors leaking by. But the compression check came back good and I dont have any fuel in the oil. WHAT DO YA'LL THINK????????? :humm:PLEASE HELP ME OUT AND SEND THIS TO OTHERS!!!!! THANKS GUYS!!!!:tu:

Even with good comperession leaking injectors will still leak into the crankcase, my question to you since I obviously cant just drive out to ya and help you is are you making any oil? and do you have an EGT guage and how hot are you running, also one more qeustion does it happen right away on start up or only when it warms up. Kinda baffles me to....

I've got great oil pressure and I don't see or smell any fuel in the oil. I do have a egt gauge and it always stays in normal range, well be low 1200 when just cruising. The smoke starts to get heavy only as the truck starts to warm up.

What weight of oil are you running? I noticed a significant difference in the amount of blowby going from 0W40 to AmsOil 15W40. If I remember correctly, there should be a ball of steel wool in the crankcase breather adapter that hangs off the timing cover. If it's not in place, it may allow excess oil to go out the tube. It's there to separate the gases and oil. Something to check anyway.

I'm running 15w 40 or 15w 45, its one of those. Also i'm running lucas in the oil too. Could that be adding to my problem? I know the canister is the on the timming cover, but I guess I need to check to see if the steel wool is still in it.

What color is the smoke? What does it smell like?

Are you sure its oil smoke?

Could it be coolant or fuel?

A cracked block, bad head gasket or similar could cause smoke. Bad valve seals and or seats could cause it too...

Just because your engine has "low" mileage doesnt mean it does NOT need rebuilt... 177k is a LOT of miles on a neglected engine (not saying yours is, but if you didnt buy it brand new you dont know that it was not neglected). Poor or lack of maintenance, cheap oils, junk filters, and so on can cause issues. All it takes is one little grain of sand (per-say) to do a TON of damage! A small sliver of metal that scars a rod bearing can cause low/un even oil pressure/coverage in the bearing gap and have catastrophic outcome.

what lucas are you running? the oil stabilizer? I have not heard great stuff about it. I can't remember the site but when you spin that stuff up to rpm it gets nasty.

So did you ever figure out your problem? Broken rings my guess! Can I get a yup!
