Edge Comp And MAP Sensor....

Hey guys, I know you can get more smoke with the MAP unplugged, and itll also set a P0237 code. However, is it safe to leave the MAP sensor unplugged as long as you want or will it do long term damage to engine/components.

anyone?

major soot particles in yer oil bud.....not good

soot is unburned fuel cause by a substokiemetric burn (incomplete burn)IE; not enough air

Why do ya want big smoke anyway???

Wyatt Earp 02-01-2008 09:05 AM

CC: don't fool yourself. The MAP needs to be pulled in. The pump wire doesn't need to be tapped but it helps.

If you wash by idling you will plug by removing the MAP. Either situation - $$$ to fix.

not sayin i want big smoke, just askin if its ok, a buddy of mine asked me so i told him id ask for him, and myself while im at at

Like Wyatt Earp sez, unplugging the MAP allows too much raw fuel which washes oil off the cylinder walls causing premature wear on the walls and piston rings.
The piston to cylinder wall clearance spec is a very close .0005" to .0015" and you have to protect those clearances with good operation & maintenance.
We're not talking about a loose built cheapo gasser motor.

well isnt that amount of smoke the same as any truck with big injectors etc. Wont it do the same thing?

Wyatt Earp 02-02-2008 12:02 PM

No, not really. The big injectors send the fuel but the MAP controls the rates and mixtures with the air content. No MAP means no control = fuel only = bad news.

hmmmm ok gotcha

I ran mine unplugged for 2 years and no problems, the benefit is the off the line power it gives you. I did plug it back in since installing the DDII's injectors. Couldn't control the smoke on the bottom end. If i get a bigger charger i'll unplug it again.

i was told last night having it unplugged can ruin the VP.....
