Drilling a silencer ring

ok so i have heard about drilling holes in your silencer ring will make more noise from the turbo. i am considering attempting it just got to get a minute to try it, has anyone tried this if so any info would be very helpful thanks

Can try it without it once, see how you like it. If it's too much, then you can drill some holes. That way, you can tune it to your octave range. :tu:

yea i agree. just taking it out would be my best guess because i have it out on my truck and i can only hear my turbo when i really hammer on it or it i am listening for it.

X3 just rip it out...

thanks for the input. mine is already out i love the sound just curious if it will make it a bit more agressive sounding or not.

X4 take the thing out! It takes 5 minutes! if you like turbo noise then you will love it out :tu:

taking the ring out will only increase turbo sound in the cab. not out of the tailpipe

ok i tried eight 3/16 " holes evenly spaced identicle to the one i saw that gave me the idea it worked but not as well as simply removing it.

Just take it all the way out thats going to make the turbo hiss lowder inside the cab as far as making the exhaust more mean turbo sound increase boost pressure which means more air more fuel..

BACONBITSFORU 01-29-2012 12:05 AM

^ Wow that logic it WAYYYY OFF. Taking the ring off has no effect on temps, power, or mpg. Just let's more noise escape into the motor bay.

i plan to pull the ring back out, when i did pull it out before i saw only a gain in noise which was awesome i did however notice that the noise in the cab did increase with the holes drilled just not as much as having it removed.

for more nose from your turbo you can just put a bigger one on or you can do a twin set up:humm:

when i took myne off my 03 cummins i noticed a huge increase in noise, throught the whole power band but not at idle. it doesnt sound like a jet engine when idling like a for 6 liter does. but my question is, since taking the ring out, does that allow more airflow and horsepower or is that just causing the air rushing into the turbo to become turbulent and thus make noise?

TTcummins99 02-02-2012 12:06 AM

my twins sounds like a jet :w2: but no there is less airflow with out the turbo silencer ring due to the way the air spins when interring the turbo and yes its the turbulent that causes the noise

My HX35 over S400 COMPOUNDS have very little turbo whistle. Especially compared to my buddys HX35 with a stage 2 S&B intake. When cruising down the hiway, it sounds like there is a dentists drill in the glove box.
