gauge, vp or something else

So on my way to work today i all of a sudden noticed my fuel pressure gauge said 0 :argh:, truck was running fine and has been running fine. I got to work gauge sat on 0 when idleing waiting for egts to go down, so i fired it back up and it was bouncing around between 0-10 after it sat an idled for a bit it sat on 0. After work it bounced around while she was warming up soon as i took off down to 0 and stayed there until I got home sat at 0 till I turned my truck off and back on then did the same thing with the bouncing really LOW. Got out the good ole smarty checked codes showed P0122 Throttle position sensor voltage low. What does that have to do with my fuel PSI? first time i had this code.
Anyways truck doesn't act like its starved of fuel. Still blows black when I get on it, has the same throttle response and all. Running the same all around as it was before I noticed the fuel psi. Have videos im uploading to youtube right now to put on here. Fuel pressure gauge is auto meter and only about 3-4 months old probably not even that old. Fuel PSI is normally about 17-18 idle. Any input would be great and why do i have a throttle position sensor code with this problem....

just went to start it again gauge stayed on 0 and didn't move. The lights are working on it thought but thats it. I'm thinking its the gauge somewhere... kinda cold to screw with it outside at 9:30

What type of gauge is it? Make, model, electric or mechanical. Have a snubber?

Nutty Jeeps 11-16-2011 09:44 PM

it is an autometer factory match for my year, not sure if its elec or mech, diesel shop ordered it and put it in. I just told them what I wanted for brand... I'll see if it says on my receipt

RAW 11-16-2011 09:52 PM

Due to pulsations from the VP, a snubber is required to smooth out the force. Without one, gauges die.

Nutty Jeeps 11-16-2011 09:54 PM

what does the snubber look like?

About like that.

I'm not saying buy from these guys, but here is a site that has a picture and description of one.:

I think theres one on there found my receipt 8560 autometer sport comp fuel psi gauge kit 24 valve dodge 0-30 psi electric transducer

thats what my bill says

This one:
Auto Meter

I sure hope they put the snubber in. It could be electrical issues as well. A loose wire, blow fuse, broken wire, even bad connectors at the gauge or sender.

Nutty Jeeps 11-16-2011 10:16 PM

The gauge is exactly three months old today.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

and yep that'd be the gauge

RAW 11-16-2011 10:18 PM

Unfortunately, time doesn't mean much. I've seen parts last decades, and I've seen them fail in seconds.
It sounds like you still have good fuel pressure, but I wouldn't bet my $1000+ injection pump has good fuel pressure because there is a cloud of black behind me. If you can, get another gauge on there to confirm you have good pressure. Maybe take it back to the place that installed it, and see if you can get some warranty out of them. If not, hopefully they can find the problem.

Nutty Jeeps 11-16-2011 10:23 PM

under the hood pics I think thats the snubber
And thanks for your help so far RAW, I appreciate it

I don't think you have a snubber. All that looks like is the banjo adapter to thread a gauge into.

Red_Rattler 11-16-2011 10:28 PM

Thats just a tapped bajo bolt... no snubber

Nutty Jeeps 11-16-2011 10:31 PM

ahhh well then.....:argh::s:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I might have to post a little rant in the badlands now.....

RAW 11-16-2011 10:33 PM

When you go back to the place that installed it, make sure you point out this on AutoMeter's web page. You could even print it off and show them.

"WHEN INSTALLING THIS PRODUCT ON '98-02 DODGE CUMMINS DIESEL APPLICATIONS, AUTO METER FUEL PRESSURE SNUBBER / RESTRICTOR FITTING #3279 IS REQUIRED. "

Red_Rattler 11-16-2011 10:43 PM

^This....

Nutty Jeeps 11-16-2011 11:49 PM

yep, ppl just never amaze me anymore. I mean you are a diesel performance shop how didn't they put that in GAHHHHHHHHH :scare2:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

thanks for your assistance RAW and Jake, always a pleasure :c:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

so I need a snubber and a new sending unit then?

RAW 11-17-2011 07:11 AM

I am 99% confident that will have you fixed. There is a chance it is an electrical issues, but seeing there is no snubber, I'd bet my money on the sending unit.

Nutty Jeeps 11-18-2011 08:16 PM

parts came today and its FIXED thanks RAW and Jake :c:

RAW 11-18-2011 09:29 PM

It was the sender failed due to lack of snubber?

Nutty Jeeps 11-18-2011 10:43 PM

yep I believe so, I ordered a snubber and a sender yesterday and overnighted it, put them in today and boom, good to go:rocking:

RAW 11-18-2011 11:38 PM

Glad to hear that it is working properly now. Get the company that installed it to cough up any of the cost?
