I usually get the 2970 from Napa

globalwarmingcontributor 11-15-2011 03:33 AM

you guys just run the stock tube from your factory intake? or you fab something up?

aguilar_15 11-15-2011 08:30 AM

I'm with the stock for now, makes the turbo sound sweet as hell though!

01quadcab 11-15-2011 11:46 AM

just replace the k and n with a s & b filter they flow better than a bhaf.

Thanks bud... appreciate it. it looks like the filter just floats under the hood.. is that true? Im getting a heatshield built by tad murata, hopefully that will look good. :yeah:

I was surfing around looking at BHAF pics and stumbled across a write-up and a printable heat-shield template.

http://dieseldatabase.com/bhaf-big-honking-air-filter/ This is the link to a BHAF write up and near the bottom is a link to the template that you can download and print. I saved it to my desktop but for some reason it wont let me upload the word document.

Thanks Ugly Truck... i may try and fab my own heat shield... it doesnt look too hard. As far as the pre filter, is anyone really using that? im not sure its worth it.

UglyTruck 11-18-2011 08:51 AM

IMO >I think they are totally worth it. as much as the BAHF costs, if I can block the large particles first before they get into and clog the pleated filter and then rely on the pleated filter to catch the small stuff I personally think it will more than double the life of the BAHF. We have run them on air filters and oil breather filters on the dirt track cars forever specifically for that reason.

GuyWithA24Valve 11-18-2011 09:21 AM

I have the prefilter on my truck. It helps resist water, and catches a lot of dirt.

Dr. Evil 11-18-2011 11:31 AM

Why are you guys still using the BHAF when you can get a WASHABLE dry filter that will last you forever for a couple of bucks more than the BHAF??? It makes no sense to me at all.

GuyWithA24Valve 11-18-2011 01:33 PM

Because I don't want to drop another 200+ bucks on a new cold air intake at the moment when I have other vehicles to take care of as well.

You dont have to - you can just buy the FILTER...same as buying a BHAF except you can WASH it :se:

You dont have to. Its just like Dr. Evil said. There are two filters from Amsoil that are becoming popular for this, one has a 4" inlet just the BHAF, just swap it on there just like the BHAF. The other is a larger filter with a 4.5" inlet, that requires a little PVC adapting.

The 4090 4" inlet
Amsoil EaAU 4090 Nanofiber Air Filter - Icebox Cold Air Intake Systems

The 4510 4.5" inlet
Amsoil EaAU 4510 Nanofiber Air Filter - Icebox Cold Air Intake Systems

They are both dry filters, do not require oiling. I wont bother you with details, just do some searches on this forum or google about them. Less filter area than a BHAF, but flow better, and still filter well.

the pre filter really cuts the flow down on the air filter. I would not run it if you want it to breath...
