Airdog + Fleetguard filter = problem
 

Would like to know if anyone else has run into this problem. I just tried to change out the airdog fuel filter (FF100-10) for a Fleetguard FF5613 (cross referenced 2 micron replacement). Filter threaded on until gasket contacts base, then it felt like it was hitting something and it stopped threading (still loose). I didn't attempt to force it - pulled it off and in the "valley" in the top of the filter you can see where it did make contact and galled the filter surface a bit. So, I looked at the airdog baseplate and there are 2 plastic/delrin? guides? that seemed to have been the contact point. They are held in place with small allen head screws and both were loose. After a call to airdog I found out these are called flow dividers and they should be loose enough so they move a little. Anyway, I take a look at the airdog filter I took off and it's very obvious that it is deeper in the "valley" portion whereas the Fleetguard is pretty shallow, almost flat. So I had to put the AD filter back on - no problem - no contact. Anybody else have or heard about this problem?? I would like to get a fresh filter on it - the old one wasn't clogged, just figured I'd change it out at the same time as oil.

I have not heard of this problem but glad you posted. This is interesting you would think they would be interchangeable.

i just got a 2 micron fuel filter for my airdog 150 at napa it threaded on just fine if you are itrested in a diffrent filter the napa part # is 3626

Judging by the responses, my situation must be uncommon because I'm sure lots of airdog users are running aftermarket/fleetguard filters as replacements. Maybe I'll try the napa filter - but will likely try to find a 10 micron since winter is coming on.

I use a donaldson filter and havnt had any problems.

must be an isolated incident, I've been using the fleetguards for quite sometime now, never had any problems

Update: I did find out the problem was 1 of the delrin flow dividers was coming loose and made contact with the filter casing. Tightened it up but still loose enough to allow minimal movement and problem solved.

nice, can't say i've ever even paid attention to those things when i've had my filters off, maybe next time I'll look, thinking about putting a CAT fuel filter if I can find a similar CAT water separator

Hi. Had the same problem today with my AirDog. Up till now I had the filters (FF100-2)that came with the unit from AirDog(Blue lettering). I had purchased afew replacements filters from Riffraff Diesel afew weeks ago (Black lettering).
Went to put the filter on, and I had the same bottoming issue you did. Taking it off and looking at it, you can see how it chewed some of the plastic from the two filler ports on the base of the AirDog. It is easy too see the center dome area on the new filter is taller than the one on the original filters. I'll have to try tightening up the two plastic ports and see if it helps. Still wonder why the center dome is taller than the older filters???
