I am in "talks" with the dealership... yea its in the shop (like i said the front left wheel came off) lol .... dont kno why i took it to my dealership. Didnt have many options at the time... anywayssss. I am in talks with this guy and I may be getting a new torque converter. What route should I go and what price am i looking at. He said he could get my a factory one for around 600 but I dont know if I just wanted to put another back in thats not "billet" (could be wrong there, Im learning...) or thats not a little beefier than the one I already have....

What are your plans for the truck? How do you use your truck? Are you going to be adding hp? If so, how much? You kind of need to know where you want to end up or you will spend a lot of money foolishly.

yea makes sense... well i plan on adding some hp because with the chip in its already going to add hp. I just havent used it yet. I was kind of waiting till I got the trans fixed because it was only going to make matters worse.... And hopefully at some point I can get a FASS and injectors. Nothing to big, maybe like 50-75 horse injectors. I would like to replace mine anyways...
I just wondered if it would make sense to get one thats a little more "built up" if you will than the stock TC.

If you're spending the 600 bucks on the stocker yourself then I'd say poop for a good one now...you'll be saving yourself 600 bucks later down the road cause when you throw injectors and stuff at it...that stock trans ain't gonna last anyway.

Thats why I said its good if you have an idea how much hp you will want to be at - if you dont formulate a plan, it will cost you more money - broken parts etc.

But, first things first - I dont see any guages or fuel system upgrades listed in your signature.

Gauges always come first. Then:

Get the trans updraded. A good triple disc billet converter with a quality valve body will make all the difference in the world. If you're going to get into a lot of competition then get the whole trans built and add some billet shafts to it.

Get a good air filter on there and open up or discard the factory airbox.

Then add your fuel system upgrade.

Then add your power. That way the truck is ready for the increase and you shouldn't break a lot of things.

We have a number of vendors here that can get you a good price on what you need.

None of this is going to be cheap. You're looking at about $2000 for the TC and VB and good trans rebuilds start at around $3500. But if you do it in order with a mind on what your eventual power goals are it will be a lot cheaper.

i wouldn't put any more money in a stock tranny than it would take to change the filter and fluid..... call a few of the tranny companies and get pricing on converters and valve bodies and a built tranny. there are a few out there that have made a reputation for themselves. Goerend, ATS, Dunrite, Suncoast, and DTT are the few i can think of off the top of my head. some will offer better warranties than others, some will let you "trade in" one of their converters towards a better one later on if you descide to upgrade to their top of the line. i never like piecing something as important as a tranny together. i got mine built once. it's overkill for the power i have now but i know it won't break when i want to go play or hook to a huge trailer and tow it somewhere......

all i can say is cheaper isn't better nor is the most expensive better. and always remember you get what you pay for. to me a tranny builder MUST have good after the sale customer service incase anything happens. also i wouldn't recomend letting someone over sell you a tranny. the guy that built mine told me what i nessarily had to have, he told me what was optional that he would recomend and why, and let me choose what went in my tranny after i told him what i was gonna be using it for and what hp rating i was going for. i even opted for some stuff that wasn't needed but that was my decision. not theirs. never deal with a manufacture that won't let you have the final say on what goes in your transmission. that way if something arises it's *your* fault not theirs. not being mean but i like being blunt about the subject.
