How much boost are you putting out.

I have a 2001 Cummins and have a Hy35 stock turbo and wondering what kind of boost you guys are putting out in your 98 to 02 auto. trucks. I am putting out 37psi which I think is good for a Hy35.

turbo20psi 09-26-2011 08:28 PM

Thats alot for a HY. 35psi is the choke point. I was at 32si when I had mine.

I see 55psi now.

RAW 09-26-2011 08:32 PM

Much more then 32PSI and your just making a lot of hot air. What kind of EGT are you seeing?

empty wallet 09-26-2011 08:38 PM

I have my HX wastegate set for 34psi max. Nice and safe.

I have a 64/71/14 phat shaft now. EGT's low 600 going down the highway 1200 full tilt.

Smarty=Cummins 09-26-2011 10:18 PM

My highest egt is 1400 but I do need a Aurora 4000 for my truck and I think I would get better mpg and a little more horsepower.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

What would make my truck put out that much boost. I havn't touch the turbo at all.

GuyWithA24Valve 09-27-2011 10:12 AM

Well I just have the HX35W on my truck with the wastegate hose clamped shut. At full throttle I see 30 psi and around 1,000 - 1,100 on the Pyro

Smarty=Cummins 09-27-2011 03:40 PM

But the Hy35 in the 2001 has the wastegate built in the turbo so you can't clamp the hose off.

They're talkin bout the hose from the wastegate to the turbo-to-intercooler boot.

Here's a pic

aguilar_15 09-27-2011 07:52 PM

Not the best but it's dark out so blah

Anyways, it's the hose going from the gate to the turbo itself, that's what they mean when they say "clamped hose". In the picture, it's the blue-ish hose that you can barely see under the intake tube.

Your injectors will push it to that kind of boost and Smarty.

That hose is only on the HX35 turbos. He has an HY35 and they don't have a hose between the compressor housing and the wastegate head

Re: How much boost are you putting out.

The hy runs a a low ar and smaller size exhaust housing , therefore blocking it all the way off imo is a horrible idea. Installing something like a jhook to slow the actuation a bit is a far better idea

Smarty=Cummins 09-27-2011 08:59 PM

I didn't know that my injectors and smarty would make it build that must boost. But ya like RAWilliams said that after 32psi it is just blowing in hot air. Would a Aurora 4000 do me any good or should I get a better intercooler.

Re: How much boost are you putting out.

I personally feel there are more affordable choices on the market that have comparable performance and features at a more affordable price point. If you could have an equal or superior warranty, with more available parts and upgrade options for the same price or lower wouldn't you use it? If so look to htt or II, engineered diesel and so on. Any vendor here can help you

Smarty=Cummins 09-27-2011 09:26 PM

What is the htt or II and what would you do to it if you had my truck.

mysterync 09-27-2011 09:52 PM

I would install some high lift mach 8's , a s475 single and a p7100 and hold on :hellox:

Honestly though? Probably look at a 62 or 64 with a 71 turbine and a 14CM exhaust housing

high tech turbo and industrial injection

justin mccabe 09-27-2011 09:58 PM

this is off topic but how do you like the smarty i have a 1998.5 i might put the smarty on

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

how do you guys like the smarty i have a 1998.5 cummins i might get the smarty for or the edge juice with attitude

H.R.D 09-27-2011 10:09 PM

I run an HX40 and see about 35-40psi with stock sticks.

No worries, just don't let it happen again :lol: just playing my friend. :c:

Smarty=Cummins 09-28-2011 06:48 AM

I like the smarty alot there are so many setting that will improve your truck. If I had to get another truck I would get a Smarty. But if it was a 07-11 with a 6.7 I would get a H&S.

TTCummins 09-30-2011 03:33 PM

250HP sticks, Edge Juice w/ Attitude HOT 6, and Super B special I've seen 58PSI, cant go any higher until I put different valve springs in
